Every once and a while I am reminded of the hope bolsheviks had for the future and it fucking ruins me

A lot of time capsules are insanely optimistic. People in general have wild predictions about the future. Shit people today still think stuff like flying cars might work (lol, lmao).

Something I think about in terms of future hope (this is written in the context of computers and why they turned out awful):

"[...] part of it, maybe, is that lingering naiveté from the early days of computing, where we thought we could make utopia just by forgetting where we came from and leaving all the old world’s messiness behind. [...]

That said, we are probably too cynical now. It's almost considered childish to hope that maybe one day we might be basically decent, or that we might not live in a surveillance capitalism hellscape. Certainly it's harder to dream wonderful dreams in a world where the dominant hegemony is actively trying to suppress the idea that things could get even marginally better.
