As it turned out, they wasted their time anyway. Shoulda just kept munching on bones, or whatever goblins do while just lurking. Come to think of it what did they live on? There were a hell of a lot of them down there, considering the environment.

That crossed my mind but it wouldn't be self-supporting - to subsist on cannibalism alone each individual would have to eat multiple others, who would have to to be eating multiple others until they themselves get eaten. It's like a pyramid scheme.
