But the officer just wrote them a ticket so it's a fine not an impoundment or anything.

The sovcit is going to write on the ticket that because his name is capitalized on his birth certificate it’s not him and send it back

Once even I was much younger I got pulled over and ticketed for an expired vehicle registration. After accepting the ticket I asked the officer how I could now get home, since I was just told that I was not permitted to drive.

The officer said something along the lines of "well you're not supposed to drive and it'll be a big problem if I see you driving again". Then got back in his patrol car, turned around, and left in the opposite direction.

I drove directly home (it wasn't far) and renewed my registration as soon as possible.

...that said, I'd be very surprised to see a sovcit get that kind of leniency.
