i was thinking of cross-posting to !goodnews@lemmy.ml too - it would be certainly be good news if more people actually got the memo and stopped using these tools!

Yeah I think in a way this is good news even for programmers who find utility to some degree from "AI" tools since it will emphasize to newer programmers that AI is not a shortcut and that more importantly to be a good architect or engineer is to understand the danger in idolizing shortcuts fundamentally.

The world doesn't really need more code, consult the "view source" button on your browser viewing a news article at a mainstream news media outlet for exhaustive proof of that.

No, we need more engineers and architects and if code is their domain so be it, the basic tenets of needing an expert human engineer to make sure systems that matter are built and maintained wisely still applies.
