I'm saying that even just incincerely signaling they're on the right side of history will determine my future shopping habits.

No corporation is good, but pretending to be decent is part of the bare minimum to get my money.

And few enough are even pretending to be decent, today, that I have money I could send to those that do. It's hard to find places to shop that are easy to feel good about.

As for anyone deciding whether I'm doing too little: They don't know my gender, what else I am dealing with in my life, or where and how much I donate, or protest.

My point is that Target's CEO lost massive money (more than I will ever see) for siding with the bigots, and we can make others hurt for it too.

Edit: Policing my own tone, to stay helpful and uplifting.

Agreed.

This is a literal "no ethical consumption under capitalism" moment.

I have to buy food, I have to buy clothes, I have to buy all sorts of stuff, or I die naked and starving - and the only power I have is, in some limited cases, I can decide who I give my money to.

And in this moment, both the feds and red state governments are eager to persecute companies with, let's say, politically incorrect viewpoints. Companies that continue to promote those politically incorrect viewpoints, despite the threatened consequences, are preferable to companies that bend the knee and kiss the ring.

Even if it's just corporate virtue signaling. Even if the only value behind it is profitmaxxing. At a time when LGBT+ people are being silenced and driven back into the closet and are afraid or unsafe to be themselves in public, people benefit from seeing that fucking signal.

I bet you could find some queer-owned small businesses to support. Obviously that's still capitalism, but it's better than nothing

I'm aware of some, but recommendations are always welcome!
