The Boeing 747-8 being offered to Donald Trump by Qatar once served the Qatari royal family and has been sitting unsold for years.

The jet, a lavishly configured version of Boeing's largest passenger aircraft, has been lingering without a buyer since being put up for sale in 2020, according to aircraft listings and aviation analysts.

John Goglia, a former member of the National Transportation Safety Board, told Forbes that giving the 747-8 to the U.S. would allow the Qataris to avoid maintenance costs that were only getting higher—with the 747 fleet shrinking worldwide and fewer mechanics available who know how to work on them.

There are so many things that piss me off about rich people and unused luxuries are at the top of the list.

There was another story about a $10 million house no one wanted to buy because it was 'out of style.'

Empty apartments, rooms full of clothes that were never worn, all kinds of things...

The problem with $10 million homes is that people who buy them can afford to build their own $10 million homes. Because of that, they are worth less than people think.

The story I heard was that at least two people went broke trying to build a super mansion on 10 acres of prime beach front property. The final guy swooped in and brought the half made house so he could resell the land in smaller lots. He got the castle demolished for free by making a deal with a Hollywood studio. The blew the house up for him to make the climax of an action movie. Bad Boys 2 iirc

I thought the price was usually more about the land.

But imagine a $10million house with an off-white marble kitchen bench top and a khaki splash back. OMG! May as well be a medieval castle! It might even have matt black bathroom fittings! Hello? Was this house on Divine Design?

[–] Dagwood222@lemm.ee 5 points 2 days ago

That's what happened. The house was designed a few years aback and now no one wants it. God forbid we let homeless folks live there...

What happens when all the poor people die off, and the rich are just left with their relative wealth to one another trying to understand what wealth actually means in the absence of poverty

The Naked Sun.

Classic sci-fi about an Earth detective sent to solve a crime on a planet where all the humans live in private mansions with thousands of robot servants.

Oh yeah, one of the more memorable ones. Asimov was eerily prescient with his descriptions of videocalls, though I cant wait for background blending to happen.

And yeah, I hear you. Planet of mostly robots, populated by 5 people.

They don't want or need all of us to live. King-shit 101, baby.

Only a few real players left on this monopoly board, how's that game usually end?

[–] tetris11@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago

Someone flipping the board

That's why they have autonation for that. Who needs the plebs if they just murder all of us with their Terminators.
