They're going to go after the easier targets first and no one will stand up for them. Think racial or ethnic minorities. The majority will think they are mostly safe and well stay quiet.

(I know this because it's happened before, including in this country)

Yes, I get the point you're making. But they're rapidly approaching a situation that's going to explode. And what they're doing is going to trigger immigrant communities to find an alternative than trusting a legal process.

The minute an immigrant tries to defend himself violently, the entire country will turn on him. Look how everyone turned on the black community for the riots when the police brutality became insufferable. Immigrants know that no one has their back so they can't fight back against this.
