Those are some really good points. I didn't have a fixed opinion on this subject before, as I want to support trans folks doing whatever they want, but also don't understand stuff enough to know if maybe someone who transitioned much later in life could perhaps have an advantage over cis women and even over trans women who transitioned earlier.
I had never thought that a simple "so what?" would be the answer to that reservation, but it makes sense. Professional athletes are not just folks who worked hard to get where they are. They did, of course, but on top of all that hard work, the lead athletes on pretty much every sport also had to win the genetic lottery to give them the edge over others who worked just as hard. It was never an even playing field.
