I've given it a try, but it's too fiddly for my tastes. Too much to keep track of. (I mean I suck at Chinese Chess already; I just enjoy it anyway.)

I recommend lishogi.org， change the peice set to dobutsu shogi, and play minishogi game. It's great. Easy to pick up, even the fiddly bits

See how each piece has all the moves indicated on it? The boars is small so it's not overwhelming
