Half the time I post a comment trying to contribute in some way but get downvotes so I'm scared to post any comments.
Additionally, I never post news articles I see because if the content of the news is bad (eg a news article about something bad google is doing), Ive seen others and myself get downvotes
profile karma doesnt matter here unless you use mbin or piefed, I think even then its only if you have an account there? (not sure about that one) Its not like reddit where more karma boosts posts/comments
I just wanted to let you know there is an option in your settings so you don't see upvotes or downvotes.
Lemmy (AFAIK) doesn't even show you your total upvotes (karma... whatever it's called) by default either. None of these imaginary points fucking matter.
So why don't you do yourself a favor and uncheck these boxes and not give a fuck what others think about your comment.
I know I have.
(Lemmy is rad as fuck)
Counterpoint: By posting things that get downvoted, you still contributed and added to the discussion by exposing people to a viewpoint divergent from the ones they perceive normaly.
Or your contributions are just shit takes. That could be the case too. /s
This, but without a /s
Sometimes you're wrong, sometimes you're talking to assholes.
Beehaw.org has disabled the down vote button/doesn't federate down votes. So you could try posting over there, it's pretty great
It's okay, you do already much more than most of us working on Photon
I absolutely understand that regarding political/news communities, I bet your experience is very different in entertainment/hobbies communities
