Is this like the cyberpunk 2077 timeline or something? Theyre gonna privitize the military?

[–] trashxeos@lemmygrad.ml 28 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Probably. Let's be real, they'd privatize gravity if they could figure out how to make it stop affecting individual people.

There was a Cixin Liu shortstory about how someone privatized air so everyone had to live in phone booth sized things and if they went out they'd be in lifelong debt just for breathing.

For some reason, I'm suddenly reminded of Spaceballs as well, though the issues are only tangentially related. Where did I put that can of Perri-air?

"The last billionaire" or something like that. Eventually all of earth is owned by one dude, who deports all of humanity off earth.

Doesn't half the defense budget already go to contractors? I'm guessing that's the half they'll keep

[–] knfrmity@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 1 year ago

Half? I'd guess much more. Other than wages for the people themselves everything would be sourced from a private contractor.

Privatization is literally the "solution" the GOP has for everything. Even when there isn't necessarily a problem, they will claim privatization is the solution.

That's what happens when there is a party by the rich for the rich.

Dems too, they're just tactful and subtle about it.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 1 year ago

lol didn't even think of that

[–] 201dberg@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 1 year ago

It already is. The military doesn't make any of its own shit. It's all private contractors. The government just writes the overpriced checks. The only thing left is the soldiers and even some of them are from private companies.
