Basically the title. There are other privacy focused+free search engines, such as duckduckgo, startpage and brave search. What makes Kagi worth the $10/month?

No. Searx/Searxng exists.

Never trust proprietary software. They can always make more money by selling your data than selling subscriptions, so they inevitably will the moment they have a bad quarter and investment money fails to come in.

This. I've been hosting+using searxng for a while and the experience is just great ^^

No ads, a manageable amount of websites build on AI content, fast searches, resillient service, ...

They don't even run their own index anyway, they rely on other search engines too. Kinda like how DuckDuckGo uses Bing under the hood.

So you might as well use SearX anyway, same thing.
