I'm trans and new to Lemmy. Can I have some lore on what's going on with Hexbear?

I'm posting because originally when I was looking to create a Lemmy account I came across Hexbear. I read the code of conduct and TOS and to me it seemed like a great fit for me. However, after creating an account there, it seems pretty defederated.
Anyway I was curious on the happenings over there, because they have some cute custom emojis over there... but if there's a reason they're so defederated, I might just pretend i never made an account there

They just love simping for dictators as long as those dictators say they're "for the people" as they're committing crimes against humanity.
