TikTok refugees have already noted harsh restrictions on RedNote that have resulted in their content being removed or their accounts being suspended, including for mentioning LGBTQ+ identities or for women, wearing a slightly low-cut top.

Anyone else feel like the RedNote content is probably all AI faked and very few Americans are actually using it?

[–] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 40 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

definitely not astroturfing, no sir, no influence campaign going on here, nothing unusual to see, please go back to consuming content without questioning who is pushing it or how or why

People like you are missing the point. I think many people are very sober about what is going on, but nothing unites people like stupid fucking policies.

Prohibition culture just leads to acts of rebellion. The more you tell young people not to do something, the more they want it. It’s not about red note, it’s that this TikTok ban is stupid and people find this whole thing entertaining

I am not a fan of TikTok. I’m saying all social media is a problem on some level. Any of those articles can be matched by equally bad ones about American platforms.

The TikTok ban doesn’t pass the smell test for most people. It feels like out of touch boomers going “REEEE CHINA AHHHHH”

[–] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub -4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

This is not about "all social media", this is about specific influence campaigns being conducted to manipulate political outcomes via TikTok either with the PRC's blessing or under their direct instruction. It is real, it is intentional, it is happening right now, and your "smell test" is fucking broken because all of the actual evidence demonstrates that banning TikTok is the correct move.

Isn't musk doing very obvious and very intentional political influence with Twitter, for example in Germany? Why isn't Twitter also banned?

[–] LandedGentry@lemmy.zip 8 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Russia did this using Facebook and Twitter. All these systems are compromised. Bad actors are using American social media sites to fuck up other countries too

Yes banning TikTok is the correct move the problem is it’s only TikTok.

The real scene is on Nazigram. All the coolsters are there.

[–] riskable@programming.dev 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Maoster would like a word. Forget showing skin... It's so cool it explicitly bans intellectuals from its platform.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Milkshake Duck has been promoting PolPotBook where it uses facial recognition to see if you're wearing glasses. If so, then starving villagers are sent to your location to rip you apart. So cool.

[–] lurch@sh.itjust.works 0 points 3 weeks ago

they are not even banning tiktok. tiktok violated a law and may get punished. it's tiktoks decision if they shut down because they can't let guys from china look into US citizens collected data. they could have just revoked access of chinese requests to the data.

I kinda wanna try a speedrun of how fast I can get myself banned

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 8 points 3 weeks ago

Just start talking about tiananmen square, they hate that

[–] CluckN@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

It’s bias but most of my coworkers who used TikTok have already switched over. We’ll see if it’s a trend or if they keep using it.
