I was just browsing some comments and came across this... exchange. In addition to "WTF is wrong with you" I also reported the comment for something like, 'this person is using the plain definition of genocide to discredit the idea of genocide. this person is clearly some kind of bigot/troll, or a deeply ignorant and unserious person. please keep a close eye on this person.' I think that's the reason why another mod responded with the genocide articles. All this before I realized they were a mod. Incidentally, this flyingsquid character is still sealioning that nobody answered them and that "the genocide is, as I said, not all that horrific." At least they put the words in their own mouth this time (downgraded from "you must not think it's all that horrific" -what the fuck!?).
When I checked my inbox this morning I found they had responded, but this time I noticed their name, and the M next to it.
So I ask you, in this context (or any, really), is "...good god, you're a mod here?" uncivil? I think the moderator is silencing legitimate criticism. I think it was the moderator being uncivil throughout. I think this flyingsquid character is a Power Tripping Bastard.
Don't be an asshole who thinks not supporting Russian imperialism is genocide. Jesus I hate how good this bait is, surely nobody is stupid and cruel enough to think Ukrainians should be embracing russian takeover and genocide, or that rejecting russian takeover and genocide is itself somehow genocide
Look, you seem like a reasonable person, but you're being unkind and putting words in my mouth. Please explain to me why I should take you seriously. Try to remember to be kind. I couldn't read the whole article bc paywall, but it's about people in Odesa who want to secede to Russia, right? Even if they're not in the minority (which I seriously doubt) they don't have the right to drag everyone else along with them to be oppressed and genocided by Russia. I'm sorry if I jumped the gun thinking you were advocating for Russia taking them over. That's just a big part of the justification for Russia invading Ukraine, the idea that Ukrainians actually want to be liberated and live under Russia again, and I don't respect Ukrainians or anyone else who want russian conquest any more than I respect neo nazis trying to get fascists in power. If they wanna be part of Russia so bad they can go there themselves and not try to get their neighbors taken over by Russia
I mean, that sounds reasonable when you put it like that. I guess I'm just coming at it from like, "better to prevent a valid action that wasn't genocide through overvigilance, than passively allow what might be genocide through neglect" or like, better to make the error of commission than omission. It's not like i actually have a hand in it either way I'm just keyboard warrioring from lack of actual influence on the world. I'm bound to make ignorant mistakes sooner or later, if that's what this was.
