There are many better break dancers in Australia but her and her partner lied and manipulated to get into the the Olympics and made a complete joke about what should be been a serious event.

Literally a national embarrassment then follows up with lawsuit over a parody show. I cannot wait to stop hearing about this woman.

[-] Doom@ttrpg.network 3 points 4 days ago

Absolutely not. Grow up

"The reason we did that is because we were notified that there were applications from other parties trying to trademark my name and image for commercial purposes,"

No. Do not let anyone copyright someone else's name. What the fuck are you doing?

The claim that she cheated her way into the Olympics has been widely disproven: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/australian-breakdancer-raygun-olympics/

[-] TimewornTraveler@lemm.ee 2 points 3 days ago

well she won the competition, but if you watch the video, she was still fucking terrible compared to the other girl. whether the judges were delirious, horny, or paid off, it's fucked up that she won the nomination.

That was a completely false rumor that spread like wildfire because people like you will believe anything they read.

I know absolutely nothing about breakdancing, but I do know that the clips I saw from the Olympics were embarrassing and shameful for any team. I don't know why she was there, but it was clear she shouldn't have been.

At least Eddie the Eagle displayed courage and dedication, even though he locked ability.

Now if you told me that she was doing it as a protest to vividly demonstrate the corruption and lack of values of the Olympic system, I could go along with that.

When it’s the first event for anything, you’re not going to get the best. That’s just the fact of the matter. Some are going to sit out, some aren’t going to hear about it at all, some just won’t want to participate because it’s the IOC. And sometimes athletes just have a bad day. As plenty of actual breakers have pointed out, she’s not that bad, she was having a bad day. It’s pretty clear that memes are doing overtime on spreading misinformation this year.

So that makes you cool with a corporation copyrighting her image?

[-] gramie@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

Why would you make such a strawman argument? I was replying to a comment that she was not worthy of representing her country at the Olympics in breakdancing.

[-] iegod@lemm.ee 2 points 4 days ago

We all saw the results. However she got there was shameful.

[-] Dkarma@lemmy.world -1 points 4 days ago

Finally. She and her defenders should be ashamed of that routine.

[-] Doom@ttrpg.network 3 points 4 days ago

the Olympics is a joke imo. the whole thing is corrupt and shitty

[-] recreationalcatheter@lemm.ee 1 points 4 days ago

Do two wrongs somehow make a right these days?

That's not a very honorable stance to defend.

Everything I see on a daily basis tells me that yes, people believe 2 wrongs do in fact make a right.
