Some dipshits just made it up out of thing air way back when the whole thing went down. Like just completely made it up, along with the bullshit about tanks running over people in the square and all kinds of other BS.
Also,
i looked it up, most estimates hit the 2700-3000 range but cant be sure due to chinese censorship. theres an advocacy group by victims families to identify all the dead but it's been halted by the ccp for obvious reasons https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiananmen_Mothers
