Does it have anything to do with brats as in the BDSM meaning? Because that's what my initial thought was that I never bothered to double check.
I'd assume so, the venn diagram of Charli XCX fans and people who like BDSM seems to be a circle. It's more of a "grungy girl" meaning with the album release though
Very helpful. I am unfamiliar with her music besides knowing she made a song or two with lots of radio play that I felt meh about like 10ish years ago.

So instead of being an obedient sub who preemptively submits, a brat is a sub that purposefully disobeys in order for the dom to punish their disobedience.
I remember being on a road trip and the couple in the back was doing brat play. Far from me to kink shame, but it actually made my skin crawl.
I have unfortunately had firsthand experience with it in a relationship and I find it cringe.
