He should make like Tony Stark and develop a serious drinking problem, then start a fight with the US government about who has the right to use his Iron Man technology and then eventually die and let his best friend become Iron Man
Doesn't he notoriously do a lot of drugs?
He's definitely addicted to ketamine or cocaine.
