what exactly is your concern? secondhand smoke? All of the smoking laws that apply to tobacco still apply to cannabis. People aren't allowed to smoke indoors or at parks. Do people still do that and get away with it? Yeah sure, but that happened before legalization anyway.

Yep..

The fact is, we see smokers continually ignore the laws. Now, we're encouraging more people to smoke.. Why? Why make it so accessible? There is no reason.

At the very least, only allow it being sold as edibles, so the rest of us aren't exposed.

There's also the question of addicted people. I had 2 housemates with an addiction issue to weed (1 only just finished rehab, as well as her family). Making weed more readily accessible won't help these people.

uhhh...because the War on Drugs is a failed endeavor that mostly led to disproportionate jailing of black and brown Americans for smoking a plant? Because the illegal market is going to happen anyway, so the state might as well legalize, regulate, and collect taxes on it? Because legalization significantly suppresses the black market, which makes it more difficult for minors to access cannabis? Those are just three reasons I thought of off the top of my dome. There are plenty more.

Cannabis does not create a physical addiction, only a psychological one. Should we outlaw Oreos because people get addicted to those?

Edit: @Auzy@beehaw.org what are you even doing in this sub if you live in Australia 😂

The big motivation for legalizing it is that even with it illegal people are going to do it anyway... Even in public... With it being legal we can now regulate and monitor everything that happens around it as well as being able to profit off of the taxes from it.
