Hab mich bisschen in den Einstellungen von @newpipe (App für privatsphäreschonenden Zugang zu #Youtube) umgesehen. Das kann sich lohnen. Bspw. mein Kontext: Kind nutzt die App auf dem Tablet, wenn es etwas schauen will, was z.B. im KikaPlayer nicht verfügbar ist. Wir setzen die Empfehlung von @dasnuf (aus ihren großartigen Podcasts #NUR30MIN und "Mit Kindern leben", danke dafür!) um, dass das Kind sich Kanäle für Kinderserien genehmigen lässt, also Videos nur über den entsprechenden...

Hi guys, I'm a heavy user of NewPipe, in fact in my phone I don't have YouTube. Have this doubt, in NewPipe my channel have 500 suscribers, but in the web 497. Why the difference?

It seems with one of the recent updates, audio quality defaults to either 32kbps or 48kbps m4a when I use mobile data. On WiFi it's always 128 kbps. I didn't find anything in the settings to combat this behavior, and it happens on my new Pixel as well as on my old Xiaomi.

I use Newpipe primarily as a music streaming app, so this, ehm, it sucks pretty bad.

Did I miss a setting or should I open an issue on github?

edit: I just opened an issue on github, hopefully this gets resolved.

edit 2: This apparently has been an issue for quite some time, it's not a bug though. Setting "Settings" > "Video and Audio" > "Limit resolution when using mobile data" to "No limit" resolved it, but it's not mentioned anywhere that this setting also affects the audio quality. https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipe/issues/8148

Still seeing posts from Lemmy about how @fdroidorg doesn't have @newpipe in sync.

They have an official repo. That will fix the problem.

I keep getting notified that I should upgrade my newpipe apk to a newer version through a url. F-Droid only has up to v0.25.2 but the latest is v0.26.1. It's been like that for >1w (the discrepancy), is this usual for F-Droid repos? Or something with my installation is wrong?

When I'm watching a video, if I click a jump-to-time link in the description, it opens the same video in a new popout player. Is there any way to make it just jump forward in the current, main video player?

How anonymous is Newpipe?
I only use Newpipe with a Anonymous VPN. (Mullvad/Proton)
Is google still able to make a big profile about me?
Does Newpipe clear cookies so that if you restart you have a completely new session?
Is there something like fingerprinting in Newpipe? For example the Language or Settings in Newpipe?

The most anonymous way to watch YouTube is using Tor and Invidious.

I think that Newpipe is way better then directly YouTube, but google will still almost completely track you even when using a VPN.

Anyone who primarily uses #YouTube for just listening to music (like I do) should consider trying out an app like @newpipe (NewPipe). I haven't dealt with an ad or interstitial break since I switched, and the mobile app plays sound while my phone is locked without missing a beat. I don't know if it'll be around forever, but I do know I'm never going back to just "www dot youtube dot com" for online videos again.

When I use it i'l generally use It on one of my phones.

Why don't I subscribe to YouTube channels on New pipe? Well one day Youtube might revoke my access to it's content entirely using newpipe. They don't like new pipe blocking the ads.

So I would go on sepia search in a separate browser window, this will make searching for videos on Peertube more broad then on an actual instance. and when I find a good channel you just need to copy the URL to that channel page and then you can subscribe to multiple channels from different instances as if it were normal Youtube channels.

If I'm on my laptop or smart tv, then that's when i'd use youtube. to keep up with trends, we know how that can be like. right? or is it just me?

@newpipe It would be really nice if when the app fails to update one or more channels from ones subscription list that it would be possible to see which channels failed. I currently have two out of well over a hundred that never manages to update but I have no idea which ones from my list it is.
