This was a collective decision by the admin team to prevent having posts spread across various communities. Hopefully, this will increase visibility, but it might take a while to get the community going.

Keep in mind that Lemmygrad is still fairly small compared to instances like Hexbear, so posts here will naturally be seen by fewer people.

Update to the original post.

Not to put a damper on things, but if you are reading this on Lemmy and want to donate, please use the direct PayPal link and make a personal transfer. The GoGetFunding site was made so people outside of Lemmy could see and help (and also to show that our need is legitimate). But every donation made through them costs at least 10% to withdrawal. Which method you use to help us is, of course, up to you. Just FYI.

I edited the target amounts on the crowdfunding site to compensate, but that's assuming the total amount is coming in through there (which it already is not) to be on the safe side. The main target of €33,000 is a high ballpark and not an exact amount like the €10,000 (minus any fees) starting cost is.

If the total legal fees end up being less than that, or we end up getting too much money, I will simply pull the plug on it, take down these posts, and issue refunds if necessary.

Thank you all for the help we've been getting, I'm trying to be calm as the original deadline was last week, but it is still possible to make this work if I can get someone to get started ASAP. Please help if you can, we greatly appreciate it.

Hi all,

The Palestinian family in Belgium that I am helping with has finally found a place to call home in Brussels! However, before they can settle, they need to pay a month’s worth of rent in advance and another 3 month’s worth for insurance. This adds up to a total of €4400 (of which €200 has been generously received).

They urgently need this amount in around two weeks time. Once they pay, they will finally be able to receive a stable monthly salary from CPAS which covers the monthly rent and the father will be able to attend full-time classes at the local university. The family will also be better able to seek help for the rest of their family still stuck in Gaza too.

This family has jumped through every hurdle for the past 3 years to get to where they are. They have been nothing but a source of inspiration and optimism for me and my friends who have helped them since day one. Should they fail to do so, not only would they not have a place to stay, it will result in them having to repeat the asylum process all over again.

Please do donate to their PayPal link the best you can and spread the word about this wonderful family! This is a huge milestone for them and we want them to see them continue to succeed against all odds! I will post updates regularly and transparently on the progress of this campaign with this community.

Also, shoutout to the following comrades for helping to boost my previous post: @bookwhyrm@lemmygrad.ml @LeninZedong@lemmygrad.ml @allende2001@lemmygrad.ml

Although I won my disability claim, I have no money. They have given me only a tiny fraction of the backpay I'm owed so far, which was taken for debt repayment. They have a backlog with paying backpay (which they pay in instalments anyway). I've received my first monthly payment but it's not a lot and the majority has gone on rent, the rest has been eaten up by interest payments. I'm up to my eyeballs in debt and don't know how to eat this month.

If anyone can help with the food situation, please send a supermarket gift card to DisabledAceSocialist@hotmail.com

This one takes credit card, debit card and google pay:

This one takes crypto:

If anyone would like to help but can't deal with gift cards, please PM me. I have paypal, but usually try to avoid real money unless there's no alternative because of government bank checks but the situation is dire right now.

The situation for disability claimants accessing food in the UK is really bad, due to benefits being stopped, long waits for backpay and sanctions. This is how bad it is and I don't want to end up like this:

EDIT: I'm really worried about how I'll eat this month without help. Without the majority of my backpay, overdraft still maxxed out and what little money I've received from the DWP already being taken for debt repayment, I just can't afford to eat without help from here. It's also been more expensive than usual as my landlady has been away visiting her sick daughter and is still gone, so I have no-one to drive me which means I have to pay for the groceries to be delivered. My mobility issues make it impossible to go myself without help.

I've still only received a fraction of my backpay since winning my disability benefit appeal, and even after I receive the rest I'll be several thousand in debt because of all the interest I've racked up after maxxing out every line of credit and being in debt for so long. There's a huge backlog waiting for backpay as the DWP owe so many people money after underpaying people for a long time and wrongly denying so many claims that have since been won at appeal.

I've written before about how difficult it is to access the local food bank. And they only let you go three times in every 6 months. . All the agencies who used to offer financial assistance like Macmillan and the local council, no longer do.

If anyone can help, please send a supermarket gift card to my email address: DisabledAceSocialist@hotmail.com

This one takes credit card, debit card and google pay:

https://www.sainsburysgiftcard.co.uk/

This one takes crypto:

https://www.bitrefill.com/gb/en/gift-cards/sainsburys-in-store-digital-uk/

I'm really grateful for any help.

Update to the original post.

This fundraiser is now on GoGetFunding: https://gogetfunding.com/legal-funds-to-prevent-an-abused-child-from-being-deported/

The amount donated directly will be added to that page's total. Unfortunately for us, we've gotten very little since the initial push. If you are skeptical about sending money directly to someone's PayPal, or you want to share it with someone who doesn't want to/know how to do that, please use the link above.

The solicitor should have started last week, where one of the court deadlines passed. I had to write a very detailed explanation of the scope of my appeal and submit it to the Courts. Even thoughI was assured that I could write it in natural language, I don't know how well it will be received and I had to speed proofread it to get it filed on time.

The next deadline requires submitting documents in legalese, so I don't think I could do that properly even if I wanted to. I hope help comes in time for us. Thank you to everyone who has already supported us (some of you more than once) and thank you to everyone who will support us on the future.

For those who didn’t know, I am a 30-year old gamer and college student. I was diagnosed with autism since early age.

I am very dependent on my pension and my aunt on my budget, however most of it went for food. All of my college expenses are covered. I am working on food and essentials expenses after graduation.

Making progress...

Thank you to those of you who have donated so far, it means the world to us that other people care. Anyone who is on the fence about helping or wants to understand something better before donating, please do not hesitate to contact me here or on my main account.

I am exploring additional fundraiser options, but so far talking to you people has been the only progress we have made. Thank you so very, very much. Still holding out hope.

My name is Ahmed Osama, a 38-year-old English translator from Gaza. During the war, I lost my wife, three of my children, my home, and my work in an Israeli airstrike. My only surviving son, Muhammad, was severely injure. Despite everything, I am doing my best to protect and support him and my family. Any support for me, my son, and what remains of my family would mean more than words can express. Thank you for your kindness and compassion. https://chuffed.org/project/132129-help-ahmed-osama-and-his-last-remaining-son-survive-genocide

Update to the original post.

I spent all week trying and failing to get a (any) crowdfunding site setup and they either won't accept my credentials or don't allow fundraising for this reason.

(If anyone knows how to reach GoFundMe by phone, please let me know. I don't know why they say they support Ireland if they won't accept an Irish photo ID as proof of identity.)

I cannot move forward with a solicitor unless I finish raising at least €10,000. And it will be difficult for any solicitor to take my case unless I can raise it before the end of this week. Until then, I have to continue to represent myself to the courts and file documentation on my own.

I realize this is a lot of money, but we really are out of options and out of time. If you can contribute, even just a small amount, please help us. We greatly appreciate it.

Hi all,

I’m helping a friend to share their fundraiser for a Palestinian family in Belgium to evacuate the rest of their family members from Gaza. We will be grateful for any amount of donations to this fundraiser. If you are unable to donate, we kindly ask that you help share this fundraiser to others you know who might be able to help donate.

In addition, the family in Begium has been granted residency there recently. However, they have been unable to find suitable housing so far, which they are required to have before the end of this month. If any comrades here are from Belgium (especially in Brussels), please kindly comment on this post or DM me as we need urgent help on this matter.

I took a quick lot at it and it seems legitimate. I am not sure if this is the right community for this, though.
