Celebrate the moment
As it turns into one more
Another chance at victory
Another chance to score

The measure of the moment
Is a difference of degree
Just one little victory
A spirit breaking free
One little victory
The greatest act can be
One little victory

Rush - One Little Victory (In Rio)Rush “In Rio” was filmed at Brazil’s world famous football stadium, the Maracanã, in Rio de Janeiro on 23rd November 2002

Hey everyone, welcome to the new community! I'm running into a strange issue where I can't seem to add this image to the community banner/icon, so I thought I'd ask if anyone was feeling creative enough to make artwork that fits the community. Please share!

An item fell off the table that I needed. Months ago it would have fallen into the trash. Instead, it fell harmlessly to the floor because I moved the trash can explicitly to prevent items from falling in. Crisis averted. I feel good and smart.

Just a minute ago, I was browsing the internet and typing as usual, and I got a little popup, as shown in the image.

A few days ago, on regular Firefox at work, I'd accidentally lost my tabs through misclicking to close out the whole browser window. So given I have recently had the annoyance of losing my tabs, I'm quite grateful I was saved from making a similar mistake today!

I read a manga a few years ago that was incomplete as of then.

I read it today. It updated since the last time I read it. Rereading the parts that I read years ago was fun, since I vaguely remembered what would happen, but not enough to totally remember everything. And then reading the new parts was fun too.

I did this with a few series, some that ended up completing since I last read them, some that are still ongoing but nonetheless have had progress.

It was a small but nice feeling and so I figured it might be appropriate here.

I was exposed to the fact these exist at work, which has a few. Promptly decided to get one for my home. I was typically the type of person to run away from bugs. Now, armed with an electric flyswatter, I can do anything! Debugging my workplace and my house one fly at a time.

I've been working as an intern for the last 6 months, and today it ended at 3pm. Not to worry though, I was hired as a full time employee very recently! There's a 2 week gap in employment, which I'm treating like a vacation and celebration of my accomplishments.

I was too slow to get my phone out to get a video of the bun hopping across my path, with its fluffy little tail showing. But it did stop close enough for me to get this picture!

I mod !bunnies@lemmy.world for a reason. Seeing wild bunnies brightens my day.

[Crosspost stolen off myself in !blood_donors@healthy.community](https://piefed.zip/c/blood_donors@healthy.community/p/1509141/donated-for-the-first-time-in-awhile)

I’ve been quite busy, so I haven’t been able to donate as frequently as I like to. I managed to donate recently and I’m pretty happy about that. Whole blood too, so I just have a tiny dot on my arm instead of the bruise bloom I so frequently get post-platelets. It’s the little things that keep you happy.

Like seeing a pretty bird outside my window. Is that appropriate, or is this more about personal achievements? Wanted to make a post here but figure I should check if it's fine first.

Also wondering: there are some people who are gladdened by seeing negative things happen to people they dislike. Sometimes it's a bit more high-minded, seeing people they legitimately think are harmful get faced with a consequence that is 1) both unpleasant to them but also 2) may incur personal growth out of the harmful behavior. I personally am not a fan of seeing schadenfreude posts in communities like this one, I come here to try to "fake it till I make it" with being more positive and grateful and to try to be a happy counterweight to a lot of the negativity online. But I am not the only person who uses the Fediverse, and other needs and wants and desires may be important too.

Kind of related; are we allowing politics posts here? Like "Good law was passed" or "Bad law repealed". Seems too big in scope, not a little win or small victory, and also a lightning rod for drama and fighting in the comments, and (depending on how you are feeling, choose your interpretation) sharing necessary but unhappy information/party pooping with "actually the good law has this and that bad thing attached as riders" and "the cruelty is the point, the bad law will be back again with more chance to pass in the future because xyz reasons." I feel given how political the Fediverse is we might want to have a rule about it at some point. What about local levels? That's small, but still seems ripe for a heated discussion that doesn't seem to be the point of this community.

For the last several months, I've been working as an intern with the hopes I'd find a full time position because I love the work. There was one created, and I was encouraged to apply by my manager. I was hired! This position doubles my salary!

My wife got around to removing some unneeded furniture from the room and thus was able to move my bed closer to the window.

Now I can open and close it by myself and put the blinds up and down. Unfortunately it's too cloudy to see stars tonight but that's just a matter of time.

I feel validated. I'm brand new to working with this kind of data and genetic research in general. I was super confused for the last week about why some data didn't seem to fit into the correct group, and was even told that the thing was correct but I wasn't doing things quite right. I sent my manager the list of "incorrect" data and now he thinks that my results are more correct than the curator's method. He's working with his collaborators and the data scientist to correct it!

I had like ten new notifications when I opened lemmy today, which (as a commenter-only) is by far a personal record.

Turns out it was due to my very first post on lemmy, about a little victory, and every single comment was supportive and encouraging!

It made me feel less ashamed about my big struggles and small victories. Small victory, but big win.

(I didn't expect little victories back to back, but I promise I wont clutter the feed every day, haha)

I've been injured and sedentary too long. A couple of weeks ago I started walking along the bus route until it hurt too much, then hobbled onto a bus back home.

Today I made that distance and back with low/manageable pain.

Next time the same route will be less pain, and soon I'll try going as far as I can in the other direction and bus back again.

I finally cleaned it! My transformation has begun! Also, scheduled a psych appointment and quit caffeine.

I've been putting this off for weeks. I finally decided that I wasn't going to wait any longer. It feels nice knowing it's done!

I wanted to be able to skate for years, because two of my girlfriends are super cool hanging out in places with their boards and skating, and it's a regular activity that they do but I always kinda felt left out from. I tried to skate a longboard two years ago, but I just failed miserably and I gave up for good. Or so I thought!

Today, I was out with the girls and I did manage to convince myself to at least try my best, and it actually worked after an hour or so! I managed to relatively consistently roll out on a skateboard without supports and without losing my balance! :)

… Now for practicing actually pushing while on the board. But that's the next step! For now I'm super happy about my progress.

For those who don't know, it's an app for blind people to make video calls for help with visual tasks. I've had it downloaded for a while, but there's a 10:1 ratio of volunteers to blind users (which is a good thing!), so I've never managed to be the first person to respond.

Well the other night when I swiped to answer a call, I was the first one and got to assist a guy with matching pants and tops while packing an outfit for his little girl. Was a quick call but felt good to be able to help, and I'd encourage others to sign up as well!

I'm a researcher at a medical company, and wrote a bash script that would make it easier to use Google Cloud buckets. Well, I shared it with some coworkers and my manager, and they like it enough that I was asked to present it to the rest of the department!
