Really excited about this one, always been interested in the Attack Decay but never felt like I could justify the board space on the original.

It’s a 4-in-1 pedal that gives you two very familiar drive circuits and two brand new amp-like distortion tones that no one has used before. It’s almost like pedal-modeling, except these are 100% analog circuits, and you decide which tone-control or clipping-section you want to play through.

It's a single-pedal with 3-knob controls and two dip switches to select either the ODR or the TS circuit for the two gain stages, giving four combinations.

I've been addicted to donk bass for years, I keep a playlist of deep house tracks with a tonne of donk bass just to keep myself settled.

I know that it's an entirely synthetic sound but I am 100% convinced I can make that sound in analog with my bass guitar. I've tried a bunch of techniques but I couldn't get close so I know I have to do this with a pedal.

The thing is that I can't find the damn pedal. I don't know what you'd even call such a pedal. So I came here to ask if someone has any idea as to how I can play donk bass in analog.

Edit: I tried including a link to an example of the sound I want but I guess I'm not allowed too because it got removed as I was posting. You can try looking on SoundCloud for "DEMO 2014 - MY EVERYTHING - DEEPHOUSE" by TIEN TIEN

Favorite dual pedals? (storage.googleapis.com)

In college (late 90s) my roommate had a DigiTech PDS 2730 HotBox. He played a PRS into a MESA head and 4x12. I had a Samick KJ-560 and a Crate GX-212 combo with maybe a Metal Zone and a Vox wah. I'd seen and used multi-effects (had a Zoom 9000 for a while), but never something like this before at the time. I remember thinking it was amazing. There are a bazillion great dual overdrive/boost, and delay plus reverb is another popular combination. What are some other dual-effect pedals people are using or have their eyes on?

Good day pedal users, I'm planning a pedalboard for when I can afford them, to color my playing after years of using a shitty Zoom multi-FX pedal. I want to actually use "proper" separate pedals for easier dialing in of tones and being able to actually change the order of the effects. Now, I'm saying "budget" and I REALLY do mean budget. Where I live, anything involving guitars is insanely expensive. What you might think is a cheap easy to get pedal like a Boss effect, costs $200 or more down here. So I've been looking around for the true budget choices that still sound competent. I currently play an Ibanez through a Roland Cube 30 amp.

With that out of the way, let's begin: I want to play doom metal and adjacent heavy styles of music. A super clean tone is not too important to me, neither are stacking of ambient pedals and delays. I like versatility, but I want to dial in my own tone that I can use for my favored music. I also want to keep the board small in pedal count, I was planning on 5 max, but I might need a couple more slots, if anything to fit in a tuner pedal.
-First, I need a good fuzz pedal. I have been looking around, and I really can't find a fuzz I like more than the DOD Carcosa. Or anything that sounds quite like it at a cheaper price range, so that's probably what I'm going to go for, and also will be the most expensive pedal on the board. The only alternative I'm willing to consider, is a big muff clone of some sort. Also I hate the Hyper Fuzz box of bees sound.
-Second, a distortion pedal. I'm pretty set on getting a RAT type pedal, but again since even the ProCo is expensive here, I'm going for an alternative. Currently at the top of the list is the Joyo Splinter, as it can sound pretty much exactly like a Fat Rat (at least in video reviews it does). Alternative consideration is a Boss DS-1 style pedal, but I'm pretty sure i want a Ratty sound.
-Third, is the first pedal I am not 100% sure of. I love the sound of Orange amps. I run my stuff through a simple Roland Cube amp, that can emulate several other things, but not an Orange. So in the interest of doing that but also not buying another amp, I want an amp-in-a-box pedal. The Joyo Oxford Sound is exactly that. The idea is to dial it in for a very characteristic Orange crunch sound, and then push it with the previous two. might turn it completely off for clean sections.
-Fourth in the path, is some sort of modulation pedal. In the interest of versatility, I'm going for a multi-mod. Can't really decide if I want to stick with a chorus, phaser, flanger or tremolo, so I want all of them in one. Candidates for this are the Behringer FX600, Caline Multimod or similars.
-Fifth in the ideal signal chain now, is my simple ambience. A singular Delay/Reverb pedal would be ideal. Currently between the Caline Ragnarok and the Sonicake Levitate. Taking suggestions of other options here. Being able to toggle each individual effect is important, tap tempo is nice but not necessary.

But, there are other effects I consider. Like I mentioned before, a tuner pedal is kind of necessary, and can double as a mute button after my distortions.
-An overdrive pedal. I don't feel like it is necessary, but everyone and their mother says they have or need one, so I have to consider it. Would potentially substitute or push into the Orange amp simulation. If I have to use one, I think I like the Klon style pedals, and there's tons of cheap clones of that around.
-A boost pedal. But not necessarily a straight flat boost. As a doom guitar wannabe, of course one of my idols is Tony Iommi, and his tone used a treble booster into a Laney amp. My other guitar hero, with a searing and captivating lead tone, is Rory Gallagher, who ran a treble booster into a Vox amp. As I understand, it's what made both of their tones so wide and clear, with aggressive mids and highs for leads. But it is also an effect that was used to solve a very specific problem: old tube amps darkened when they were pushed too hard and loud. Modern amps, solid state amps or amp simulations don't necessarily suffer from that. Or I could just set up a bright sounding low gain overdrive to keep always on for a similar effect. This is the one I'm least sure about. Also it might require me to apply a noise gate at the end, increasing the total pedals on the chain not by 1 but by 2!

On a final note, I also might want to learn bass at some point. And bass players' #1 effect is compression. So I might have to get one of those someday too. Wouldn't use it on guitar, as it does the opposite of what I want.

Either way, after this whole wall of text, I thank anyone who read all of it. What advice can you give me? Both on pedal choice or usage? Do you think it is possible to sound something in the middle of doom metal and bright blues leads? On a budget? That's what I want to know.

This is the last pedal on my main board. The EQD Aqueduct vibrato.

I feel like this is one of the most slept on pedals out there. It's a great vibrato and I think it's a comparable if not better alternative to the VB-2w. I think at this price point a lot of people end up getting the Walrus Audio Julia though. With the EQD you've got all the normal waveforms plus a random wave. The Env settings are really neat. You can set it to do whammy style dive bombs with the momentary switching too. Wata from Boris demonstrates it in an EQD video out there somewhere.

I primarily use this to turn any sound lo-fi. I had a ZVEX lo-fi junky but it's way too noisy for me. I have the Aqueduct set as you see with a slow triangle wave but sometimes I move it to the random waveform. I have it sitting between the Dispatch Master and the Habit. It make the DM sound a little more analog and adds more psychedelia to the Habit. It also goes great after a lower gain or biased fuzz tone to sound like you're playing through a broken cassette player or something.

This setup has been the longest lasting on my board.. i planned it for a long time on pedalplayground.com and then i put it together in one night. It’s the result of many iteration on a single-row boards, but in the end i’m happy with this 2-rows.

On the pedals: -the 2-footswitch blue one is a KoT clone that i built myself; -the white one next to the KoTclone is a 1981DRV clone that i also built; -the models i’m using on the mooer x2 are a 5150 lead channel for rhytm/chugs/lead parts and a fender twin (i believe) for the clean stuff and as a pedal platform; -on the Hall Of Fame2 i’m using a toneprint which has a modulated plate i believe.. -as you can see the corona mini is not in the rig, but i loaded a boss CE-2 toneprint.. i’m waiting to find a solution that fits everything and it’s as comfortable to use as this one; -the Flashback2 has an external tap tempo that i built which is amazing to control the time of the delay or to add functions to the built-in looper; Everything’s powered by an Harley Benton AC-10iso pro;

I go straight stereo wet/dry - wet into my interface and out on my presonus monitors on my desk. Feel free to ask anything about this rig :)

Hi, I recently bought an Eq2 pedal from Source Audio.

By looking around I found this:

  • 80 Hz - 200 Hz: Energy & Fullness
  • 200 Hz - 500 Hz: Muddiness & Boxiness
  • 500 Hz - 1 kHz: Punch & Intelligibility
  • 1kHz to 5 kHz: Attack, Harmonics, Clarity

Knowing this, I'm wondering how to configure my frequency bands. First, I'm looking for something simple to get to grips with the pedal, and I was wondering if there were any best practices for setting the frequency bands. For example, for the lowest part, is it better to set 2 bands, one at 80, the other at 200? Put a band in the middle? (80 + (200-80)/2 = 140)?

Another idea I had was to use the bands defined on a graphic Eq like MXR 10 Bands (31.25, 62.5, 125, 250, 500, 1K, 2K, 4K, 8K, 16K)

Thanks!!

Up next is the Earthquaker Devices Dispatch Master.

I've gone through a ton of Delay pedals over the years. Probably only had more Fuzz pedals. Before the Dispatch Master I was using a Boss DD-500. I found with the DD-500 I created a bunch of presets when I bought it and then just stopped messing around with it because setting up presets took time away from playing. So when I looked to replace it I wanted something stripped down that would force me to move knobs.

The Dispatch Master is not a flashy delay pedal and I think that's its biggest strength. It sits INCREDIBLY well in a mix and as long as you don't crank all the knobs or set it way out of tempo it really doesn't have a "bad" setting. If I'm recording a solo, or even just want a track to sound more "alive" the Dispatch Master is on. The other thing I like to do is put a vibrato in front of the DM to make it sound less digital.

The one thing I miss that this delay doesn't do is multi-tap. I have a CBA Habit that can do multi-tap delay but it doesn't quite get to the level a RE-2/202 or Echorec does so I might be getting one of those in the future.

Getting back to talking about my pedals today with the Boss CE-2w.

This pedal came out right as I was looking for a new chorus pedal. I have an old big box Small Clone that I was using before this. I didn't like that it didn't really have a depth control and the 3.5mm headphone jack style power is always annoying. Combine that with the fact that I'm a huge fan of John Frusciante it was a no-brainer to buy this. It remains the only pedal I've pre-ordered.

As you can see I keep the depth pretty subtle. This allows me to get that funky, plucky, warbly tone you hear a lot on Blood Sugar Sex Magic if I dig in and play hard. I also find that if I play lighter with chords I can get that really pretty chorus/flange type movement too. I tend to prefer the middle CE-1 mode but the other modes are really nice too. I can't see myself ever replacing this pedal and I recommend it to anyone looking for a chorus. I really think it's worth the price tag.

Nice that they're adding more pedals in this form factor. Willing to bet any day now we see a Muff, Holy Grail, or Small Clone in this size.

Looks like a more traditional reverb from EQD. Room, Hall, and Plate algorithms. Ability to save 6 presets. Assignable expression control.

I already have a Harmony M. I bought it over a decade ago; it's my first and only pedal. I was interested to see if they revised it and gave it some modern features, but it looks like they've fully discontinued it. I'm not well educated on what to look for.

I wad curious if you guys have any knowledge/recommendations of modern MIDI controlled pedals (or perhaps any non-foot-interacted musical equipment) that offers vocal harmonies, and maybe other niceties like looping and whatnot.

This is my current pedal board:

guitar Gibson Les Paul -> Korg Pitch Black -> MXR Compressor -> Big Muff (wicker) -> Lovepedal Eternity Kanji -> Little Green Wonder -> POG2 -> Pulsar -> MXR Carbon Copy -> Voodoo Vibe (vintage) -> Small Stone -> Line6 DL4 -> Ditto -> amp Hughes & Kettner statesman dual el84

Feels like a mixed bag, but I can get the tones I want. What do you think? Any suggestions?

Finally found a Danelectro Chicken Salad for a resonable price (ie pre-JHS hype prices). Definitely a good Vibe circuit, but the casing is fragile. Do not fall for the hype and buy one over $100. At that price, you could get a BBE Soulvibe, which is just as good IMO, and has a sturdier case.

The Yamaha CH100 Stereo chorus was a neat find. Very much a thick, lush, 80s style stereo chorus. The manual and width knobs are pretty interactive making for some very cool sounds. Absolutelty S P A C I O U S in S T E R E O.

Sounds like this! Bass rig, finally got a power supply large enough to support everything. Mostly hearing the Moog Ring-Mod+Delay. Its pretty bananas.

Thumbnail is showing the Mood MKII. No idea why.

Looks like CBA is doing a limited run collab with Empress on this pedal that is inspired by a mode on the Empress Superdelay.

It has full Stereo I/O which is nice plus all the wackiness of a CBA pedal. Sounds like you can run all 3 delay types at the same time which is kind of unique.

I don’t feel great about the whole limited run pedals idea though. We don’t need more FOMO on anything in the world. I guess if they think demand is high enough they’ll keep making them. At least this a whole new pedal and not just a limited run paint job?

Right now it only sees bedroom jamming, but will hopefully will see a band environment soon. My thoughts on each component:

Korg Pitchblack Custom: Keeps me in tune and is easy to see and read. The Korg has a power out, so I might daisy chain the compressor off it to get another pedal on the board later.

SP Compressor: Originally was trying it out as an always-on pedal, but it felt like a compromise between my humbuckers and single coils. Now I've set it for when I want a squishy, clean rhythm sound.

Friedman Smallbox: Does the amp-in-a-box thing, makes my amp sound more like a Friedman, so no complaints. Still feel like I'm dialing it in as a good crunchy rhythm channel. I go back and forth between it and a DS-1W.

Blues Driver Wazacraft: Using it in the custom mode as a solo boost in both volume and gain. Sounds really good.

Carbon Copy: It's the analog delay staple. Had one when they first came out, sold it when I took a break from playing, and bought it again.

Supro Amulet: Very similar to a Fender amp, but with a more leveled frequency response thanks to the Celestion speaker (i.e., not as mid scooped). Takes pedals really well, but I've noticed with ODs and distortions that things can get very bright very quickly. Right now it just stays on the 1 watt setting. Sounds great though with both single coils and humbuckers.

preamps (lemmy.world)

Hi all,

I'm a bit swamped and confused on the use over a preamp, and ultimately if I need one.

I'm looking to upgrade my signal and to play without a cab occasionally. I don't really need a real booster (I get the volume I need)/overdrive as I already have these in my chain. Is there anything to recommend something under 120€ that would just fit my needs (preamps tend to be on the expensive side it seems).

For reference: I play on a supro dual tone and a fender telecaster.

Thank you in advance.

PS: I have done some research and thought the mxr micro amp is the kind of pedal I'm looking for. However I have no idea what I'm talking about as this is really new to me.
