This colorized image was captured by NASA’s Psyche spacecraft on May 3, 2026, from about 3 million miles (4.8 million km) away as it approached Mars for a gravity assist. Psyche will pass roughly 2,800 miles (4,500 km) above Mars on May 15, using the planet’s gravity to reshape its trajectory toward asteroid 16 Psyche. The glowing crescent is sunlight reflected from Mars’ dayside and scattered through its dusty atmosphere.

Japan’s Kaguya (SELENE) orbiter confirmed the existence of a massive underground cave, or lava tube, on the Moon in 2017, following its initial discovery of a vertical pit (skylight) in 2009. Located in the Marius Hills region, the cave is roughly 50 km (31 miles) long and 100 meters wide, offering potential shelter for future lunar bases

This is a pallasite meteorite a rare slice of an ancient asteroid believed to have formed between its metallic core and rocky mantle over 4.5 billion years ago.

Those glowing crystal sections are olivine, meaning you’re looking at the shattered inner remains of a lost world from the dawn of our solar system.
