It’s like it’s running out of his nose :)

[–] thelsim@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 month ago (5 children)

So it’s the good kind of AI? A specialized model, trained for a particular purpose?
At least it’s not an LLM.

And the final winner, of the final (for now) weekly imageai challenge is..... *drumroll*

Name Score
@leftascenter@jlai.lu 5
@Ziggurat@jlai.lu 2

@leftascenter@jlai.lu!! Enjoy your trophy!

Thank you everyone for playing, both in this and previous challenges!

You're most welcome, I had a lot of fun over these past two years (yes, it's been that long at least :)

Like I said in another comment, I feel that the novelty of easy access to just seeing whatever you want to see is wearing off. It will take more time for a creative idea to pop up that can be interesting enough for someone to want to actually post it. Which is a good thing in the end, we're just raising the bar on what we would actually like to share :)

The AI haters are a thing, but I don't care about them, as long as they stay out of this community.

Anyway, I'm not leaving or anything, just taking a break from hosting the challenges. Maybe I'll think of something fun and post here again, in the mean time I'll work on my awful drawings :)

[–] thelsim@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

I know what you mean. To me it seems like the better and easier these models become, the less interesting the images seem to get.
Half the fun was in the weird and unexpected stuff that would roll out from time to time, but a lot of these models are too well trained to allow for that nowadays.

Also, I think I'm just kind of tapped out of creative ideas on what I would want to see. It's like you have a digital camera for the first time in your life. You can and will take pictures of everything you see, but after taking the umpteenth picture of a nice flower, or pretty sunset, you feel the novelty wearing off and you sour on it for a while. I'm sure I'll get some new ideas with time, but for now I'm happy taking a break :)

[–] thelsim@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

I’m so focused on mentally getting my story straight that I completely miss the other introductions.

[–] thelsim@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (5 children)

On a side note, I think this will be the last challenge we'll be holding for a while. I've noticed that interest has waned, and it definitely becomes harder and harder to come up with a new theme.

Of course if someone else wants to take over, they're more than welcome to continue the weekly challenges :)
But I'll be taking an extended break for a while.

There’s plenty of movies that I like to rewatch, and most have been mentioned here already.

But the first movie I remember rewatching over and over again when I was little, was Labyrinth.
Funny enough I haven’t seen it in more than thirty years. It’s mostly nostalgia vibes by now, but I remember being in love with that movie back then.
