Huh, here I was ready to create the voting post, only to find out it's already been up for two days.
This is a pleasant surprise :)

So, I guess we can call a winner by now: | Rank | User | Points | |

|

| | 1 | @Postmortal_Pop@lemmy.world | 8 | | 2 | @merde@sh.itjust.works | 6 | | 2 | @WhatsHerBucket@lemmy.world | 6 | | 2 | @thelsim@sh.itjust.works | 6 | | 3 | @allo@sh.itjust.works | 5 | | 3 | @Pencilnoob@lemmy.world | 5 | | 3 | @swelter_spark@reddthat.com | 5 | | 4 | Ziggurat@jlai.lu | 4 | | 5 | Zedd00@lemmy.dbzer0.com | 3 | | 5 | Deceptichum@quokk.au | 3 |

Congratulations to @Postmortal_Pop@lemmy.world! You win and get to choose the next challenge.

And @Apytele@sh.itjust.works, thank you for all the hard work!

Last August was the SAIL in Amsterdam. A huge sailing ship event with tall ships from all over the world. We took a boat tour along the ships to see them up close, it was very impressive. Unfortunately, the photos never really show how huge these ships really are or how crowded it really was on the canal.

And some official photos that I didn't take, but do a better job of showing the scale of the event:

Sure! It's this one:

Of course windows is going to be replaced the moment it arrives :)

A small 8 inch laptop that can fit in my everyday bag. It hasn't arrived yet, so I'm not sure if it'll be worth it.
It's my usual birthday purchase impulse, the one time I allow myself to splurge for something for no other reason than "I want" :)

I hope to use it to wean myself off of phone apps and have something that is more under my control while I'm outside.

Prompt: Sci-fi horror movie scene, a wanderer wearing faded nomad clothing, looking up at a large pulsating sculpture made of red meat, the creature has one gigantic eye that placidly looks down at the wanderer, its flesh seems to grow throughout the city ruins covering everything, side view --ar 91:51 --sref 2640228480 --sv 4

You'll save yourself (and others) a lot of annoyance.

If this is too difficult I will also be happy to do it for you :)

Oops, my mistake :)

[–] thelsim@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

That's fine by me

[–] thelsim@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (3 children)

So we only really have two entries for this week's challenge. How do you want to do this?
Wait for a bit longer, just start the voting post anyway, or call a winner straight away?

[–] thelsim@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ohhhh, I didn't know you were the target audience. Making something for you to hate is too high a bar for me :)
Then again, maybe I should just try something different:

Say hello to your new best friend! I'll just be adding this whenever I'm asking you to nsfw an image next time :)

I know around Europe there are some travel operators that offer passenger berths on commercial shipping lines. Maybe there are also some trans-Atlantic options?
You probably get a small room, and it’s not luxurious. But compared to the literal hundreds tons of cargo on board your carbon footprint is probably minuscule.

You also get a unique experience about life on board, so that’s worth something as well :)
I had an acquaintance who travelled from Amsterdam to Helsinki this way. She was very positive about the experience.

Though you will have to arrange two separate trips which might be a bit more complicated. Cargo vessels don’t stay in port long enough for you to enjoy a full vacation.

I don’t have a favorite but Error Detection by Nemophila is an often played song in my list right now.

City cleaning just came by to pick up our old sofa set. It was old and completely worn out and really had to go.
But I definitely made a mistake seeing them pick it up. A huge truck came by with a big crane and pretty much tore our old couch to pieces while lifting it in.
At that moment I felt so emotional. I thought back to all the great memories I had with that couch. Seeing my kids grow up playing on it, our late cat sleeping on it in the sun, all the cuddles we had on it...
For some reason I felt like our couch deserved better than such a cruel ending. It's funny how attached you can get to some inanimate object.

The adjacent park is really nice and the palace gardens are also beautiful.

Some pictures from our trip to the Keukenhof.
It's an annual flower show, though we got there kind of late in the season unfortunately. Some of the flowers were already starting to die off.
Still well worth the visit, there were some gorgeous views.
