Well, for me it's not a problem since one CAN study magic but for each individual the process is completely different. It's just that magic is not some kind of a dormant attribute of the world but a type of intelligent force.

Trying to explain logically something that's supposed to be illogical but here you go: A wizard's brain is making a translation layer that fits only that wizard. There are no schools per se; no one can teach you your way of understanding magic and their way of understanding it won't work for you either but academies can provide you with space, time and all the basic necessities needed for you to study it your own way, that is, find your way of translation through study. The only method for wizards to translate their understanding of magic from someone else is through spell scrolls or spell books; this is possible only thanks to the nature of spell books and spell scrolls being magic items in and of themselves and so also being able to be understood through the reader's "comprehension interface".

Attempting to study and understand magic is possible, but in that case magic "decides" it will become a capricious fae/alien that will talk with you in its own language, creating new language for each creature and requiring you to learn it with absolutely no guidance.

TL;DR: magic is weird and flimsy, each wizard understands it in a different way that works only for them.

For me, personally, making magic "grounded" makes it less... Well, magical. I feel like if magic won't be whimsical and willy-nilly, it will lose the wonder factor and become just another part of sciences. Science and magic being the opposite ends of a spectrum is what, to me, is the whole point of magic.

Is "spiritually Latinos" just an euphemism for "poor"? 🤔

You've missed your #notAllAmericans.

I never thought about it much but this post sparked the process so here it goes:

My family became poor when I was around 4; I've got quite a lot of photos from before then (early 90s), which was our main/only way of documenting life events. The price of a photo film and the film processing services resulted in our family abandoning the medium and throughout most of my childhood/adolescent life, the idea of documenting my life didn't "ingrain" in me. I also never "got" the purpose of making journals, which I found as a time wasted, since I didn't think there was anything worth documenting.

At some point, everybody got their phones with digital cameras and at a later point I got mine too, but it was always the low-end model with the "potato-lens" which discouraged me from using it, especially when in groups where anyone could take better photos with their superior cameras.

I've tried using calendars and notebooks at some point to put my life in an order of some sorts (mostly for keeping dates, not journaling per se) but couldn't remember to keep them on person and use them consistently. (Got diagnosed with AD[H]D as an adult a couple of years ago so it kinda tracks)

I also never had the drive to post my own stuff on social media (so in my teenage years, instead of posting photos or writing stuff, I ususally just put links to songs I liked on youtube). There was an urge to post since "everybody did that" but it was hard for me to convince myself that whatever I wanted to post was "good enough".

Now, in my adult life, I've noticed at some point that I don't have that "trigger" that would make me pull out my phone to document events in my life or write down my thoughts on matters. Most photos I have in my camera roll (and stored on hard drives) are either some documents or things I needed to refer to during some work. Meeting my wife has changed that a bit; I've got much more photos of us together since I've met her, but the aforementioned trigger isn't there in me anyway.

I've got my childhood photos stored in a small envelope. Whatever photos/videos I took since my first phone with camera are stored both in a cloud and on a couple of HDDs. I don't find myself going back to them, though. If I ever do, it's because I'm searching for something specific and have to sift through the stuff.

Writing a post/comment like this is something rare for me and gotta say I didn't do it for a long time. Thanks for the inspiration.

We're on Lemmy. The amount of "normal" people here is really low.

It wasn't unnecessary, according to their knowledge at the time. They even wrote that in a previous post and referred to that information in this post.

Seems like you didn't read either and just decided to get angry.

Isn't "abilities unlock areas" like... The whole point of the "metroid-" part?

I'm honestly asking about your opinion. I don't think there's a... concrete definition?

I've never played the game but the post popped up on my feed so my opinion is surely the least biased!

It's the goddamn tourists.

Oh, that makes it even better!

I'm finally getting to replacing my ISP-provided Huawei router for, well, something - anything - else. When sifting through options available locally I've noticed Fritzbox 4060, which is not a name ice heard ever before. I didn't find much info about neither the company nor the product (except for marketing info and basic technical specs, which look fine for me). I guess I could've looked up some German sites (and believe the automated translations, cause my German is almost nonexistent) but I'm honestly interested in opinions of the people in this community.

So, what's up with AVM?

EDIT: Thank you for your replies! Seems like I'm going to buy the bullet and buy myself a Fritzbox, then!

Kde allows you to edit files with elevated permissions; use Kate for that. Open any system file in Kate and it will ask you for your password when you'll try to save it.

Systemdgenie is good enough for me, but that's just me.

Since I couldn't find any site where all the 2025 monster manual previews were gathered, I've decided to create my own here. Feel free to add anything I have missed and I'll update the post!
