violence as a means to an end, pragmatically, has enormous costs,

The people I'm talking about (the worst ones) don't even have an "end." No plan at all. The violence is the end. It's pure stupidity. I see it as the lust for violence, coming up with some politics to justify itself.

I honestly think self-righteousness pushes people away. It's why I can barely stand bluesky. During the big exodus from reddit, all these so-called far-lefties (who I think were just reddit goons doing infiltration) were all screaming for everybody to defederate. Even now, I keep arguing against idiots posting "kill a cop" or "kill fascists" memes, like this is literally an "advocate violence" platform. I don't expect to pull big numbers with that kind of shit.

Social media is kinda washed up. A lot of people are on substack, too. The internet as a place is just less popular, I think. We're all getting sick of it.

In theory the fediverse is not a monolith. We actually want for this to not work.

FYI the aliens who built the pyramids actually had that tech stack.

Doesn't seem like he's learned anything

you don't "need" all those limes!

I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

Oh that's nice. And they'll let the public sit there and read and write?

[–] sentient_loom@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'll forego the kettle happily enough. I can walk somewhere to get tea.

Also, I'll happily use a coffee shop if they're not playing music. Do you know some coffee shops that will let me sit there, that don't play music, with tables big enough for a laptop and some notes? (getting very specific now, please forgive me!)

Do university libraries allow non-students? I'd pay for access. That would be a very quiet place to work.

I'm unemployed, and my living situation doesn't give me much space or peace to get any kind of work done. So I either want to find co-working space to rent, or coffee shops that don't play music and will allow me to stay for hours. I don't want to use the public libraries anymore. And I don't want to insult them by explaining why, let's just take "public libraries" off the table. Co-working spaces are probably what I'll go for, but wow they're expensive. I'm glad to hear some recommendations of co-working spaces that will let me sit and write (code and prose) whenever I want. Bonus points if they have a kettle so I can make tea. Please share your ideas and experiences!

Crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside

Get some nice puerh, or some white peony tea.

I know the Tea Store in the Byward Market has a nice selection of loose teas (highly recommended), but I'm hoping to find something nearer to downtown or Elgin. Not looking for bagged teas, but a place that actually stocks some loose teas where I can conveniently stop for a while without the detour to Byward Market. A restaurant is fine. It doesn't have to be a tea shop. Thanks!

General history, preferably. Perfect Books has some niche histories and trivia, but I want to read the whole thing from the beginning (in hardcopy, not digital).

Thanks!
