Everybody knows Facebook surveils, but seeing actual numbers is still newsworthy. Particularly when they're catastrophically high.

253

Based on data from https://fedipact.veganism.social/ it seems that the majority of instances blocks threads.net. I'm sure there's Lemmy instances with either approach that have slipped through the cracks as the list is a work in progress.

The percentage of users doesn't correlate to instances as the biggest instance on the Lemmyverse has roughly 3x the users of the second largest, a NSFW instance, 4x the users of the biggest "niché" instance and 5x the users of what I see as the second largest general purpose instance.

Be careful, one day you'll boot it up only to find some hacker have set new and impossible to beat highscores.

I enjoy making the gaming experience my own, so back before portable radios was a thing (even as a mod) why not watch some lore-appropriate VOD's while gaming?

Update when? (lemmy.sambands.net)

Yeah, I'm a bit hyped.

I'm fascinated by the possibilities that synthesizers and AI brings to gaming, machinima (narrative videos using game engines), streaming and similar.

In this video I'm testing xVAsynth to generate new voice-over lines for "V", the main character from Cyberpunk 2077. The voice model is downloaded from the net, but the lines are generated locally.

I'm absolutely stunned by the level of imitation the synthesizers are at - And keep in mind that this is "outdated" software.

Playing around with xVAsynth 2.0 a while back I wanted to test the voice synthesizer with a longer piece to see if if it could create a "polished voice" compared to the short and rather robotic examples the app creator offered.

There's unreasonable amounts of work required to make it sound as natural and dynamic as this, every single breath behind every single syllable have to be "animated" so it's not sustainable to use it "at that level" for larger projects in my opinion. I'm pretty happy with the results though, it sounds around 80-90% "right" - And that's pretty good.

Please tell me you're ruining this on a Hackintosh.

I've used adblockers for like 15 years and I genuinely get disgusted when watching YouTube without it. There's no way I'll go back. I even do sponsorblock to remove in-video ads.

The unfortunate thing is that I'm willing to pay a reasonable price for a lot of content creators, just not via Google/YouTube.

A dollar per channel? I follow 104 content creators om YouTube through RSS. And many more if we count all the other platforms. I can't afford that.

It's a difficult situation for viewers, creators and providers. I don't have an answer, but a stop-gap solution I'd be happy to see is like 480p max for adblockers, pay for HD+. That's reasonable based on how much ad-dodgers impact YouTube from what I've gathered.
