Satisified filen customer here!

That's cool that kDrive uses onlyoffice as their backend; that's my preferred desktop FOSS office suite after testing formatting compatibility to MS word back when I gave a shit about that. I don't really need an online office suite these days but still cool. Too bad their storage is not e2ee πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

not something most normal people will ever do

β‰  not able to.

Therefore, no monopoly.

Any idiot with stock android can already sideload apps and/or download an alternative app store to manage their apps like fdroid, et al. No custom rom needed, lets not make this seem more complex than it is. Just cause most people don't make use of that ability does not mean google has an app store monopoly that needs to be legislated away.

Ofc playstore will come preinstalled on android phones; they aren't trying to make Apple remove the app store entirely as the default either? That's a false equivalency. The problem is there is no alternative option to release and monetize apps available on Apple AT ALL.

I agree google's playstore policies are strangling app developers for no reason and it sucks but thats not the same situation as with Apple. Android devs can already release via alternate means if they take issue, many just choose to whine and continue only releasing via play store anyways.

Nothing says you have to publish your app on playstore if you don't want to deal with their policies. You already can monetize your app by any means you want outside of playstore infrastructure on android, again nothing to legislate away like with Apple. Whether that is by purchased licenses (optional ones too like grayjay comes to mind) or donations or whatever. Plenty of successful apps are not available on play store at all due to policies (fdroid for example) and if google keeps making it more difficult for devs to publish on the play store in general maybe more devs will get fed up and join that group.

... how does play store have a monopoly exactly?

You can already use whatever third party app store you want on android. I don't even have play store installed on my android phone πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I'm glad they went with Chinese ships. We need more ships now, not more make-work projects for Irving to fuck up for the next decade and then under deliver

Agree, Canada is a better visit.

There's also even alternatives to the grand canyon outside the states too!

Copper Canyon in Mexico is 4 times larger and you support Mexico with your tourism dollars instead of Amerikkka.

The point about independent instances of Jitsi reminded me how dumb it is that every single university with a CS program doesn't host their own Jitsi instance instead of paying for enterprise licenses on teams et al... most already do their own moodle if I'm not mistaken so shouldn't be a stretch.

Looks cool, going to read more about the lore and give it a shot if I can come up with a character πŸ€™

Sounds dumb but idk cause its paywalled πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ anytime industry lobbyists are involved its probably a bad idea though

The problem is they keep you tech illiterate rather than teaching you how to better use technology.

Well put IMO

Many of CO-OP's house brand products including their toilet paper and paper towels are Made in Canada.

Western Family paper products seem to be as well, although I prefer co-op gold for this application.

Not sure if any other house brands are as well? FRANK stuff at Canadiantire is good quality but I don't have any to check the place of manufacture.

Who are some of your favourite Canadian authors? Remember to share the author's website if available, instead of an Amazon link. Your local library may have a lot of Canadian books too!

I saw a Silverwing book by Kenneth Oppel at a clearance sale and that took me on a nostalgia train. Looked him up and I didn't realize he's quite a prolific Canadian author!

Not sure if its all YA/easy reading, but that's what I grew up with. Both the Silverwing series and Airborn are top notch for that sorta thing and still hold up well for a re-read occassionally.

Unnecessary BackgroundWell I've begun shopping for a reasonably-priced concert ukulele in anticipation of completing Bernadette Teaches Music's #30dayUKEchallenge. I'm already finding my little soprano (that I bought without research) to be a bit uncomfortably small. After watching a size comparison, I suppose I should have started with a concert instead. But, it will be a good excuse to reward myself for finally sticking with an instrument for an entire program after years of on and off interest. (Recently I've been finding (micro)rewarding progress is helpful with ADHD)

I suppose I should have expected most of the major brands to be USA based since Hawaii was colonized afterall.

Here's a list of Non-USA owned brands that I found in a preliminary search.

  • Ibanez

    • Country of Manufacture: I spy Made in China on all 3 uke models
    • Country of Ownership: Japan
  • Aria

    • Country of Manufacture: China and Indonesia, Japan for platinum line (no ukes)
    • Country of Ownership: Japan
  • Cordoba

    • Country of Manufacture: China
    • Country of Ownership: ~~Spain~~ Japan, owned by Yamaha now
  • Your Local Luthier

    • Country of Manufacture: Canada
    • Country of Ownership: Canada
    • Edit: Added this in for those who can afford it/are skilled enough to justify a handmade one!

Disclaimer: Always check the CoM for a specific model you are interested in if you want to make sure.

Would love suggestions for other quality brands too if you know of any others!

Just a little reminder.

Pisses me off to no end that they use the Canadian identity for marketing when they sold out decades ago.

Also their coffee and food has been shit for a long time too, coincidence? I think not.

I just wanted to shout out Egli Farm. I found them while doing my Christmas shopping this year and everything my partner and I have gotten has been great quality at fair prices. The sheepskin bucket hat was a big hit at Christmas since it enables year round bucket-hattery in Canada lol

They have hundreds of Made in Canada wool and sheepskin products including clothing, footwear, homegoods, raw wool and sheepskin supplies, etc. Seems like they contract some of the more processing-intense type products out to Stanfields but they're in Canada too πŸ€™

Family-owned in Ontario since 1952!

P.S. if you end up ordering something leave a note on the order suggesting they switch to a .ca TLD so its easier for people tell they're Canadian
