The Czech republic has non optical microscopes only because FEI (part of Thermo Fisher Scientific) has its manufacturing plant there.

Since there are basically two manufacturers of election microscopes on earth (the other one being Zeiss) and one of these bad boys will settle you for millions of dollars, this explains how it's the country's main exports.

Before being aquire by Thermo Fisher Scientific (in 2014 or 2015, not sure) FEI's annual gross income was around $1B, so around the figure cited here.

Source: I worked at FEI when it was aquire by Thermo Fisher Scientific.

God of war Ragnarok is a AAA game, and I absolutely loved it.

There, not everyone complains about all modern AAA games. Just in case you actually thought EVERYONE dislikes them, you might be in an echo chamber.

I can't stand these "articles" that pad the answers you want and came for behind paragraph after paragraph of uninteresting facts.

I don't care about the cast of the first movie, and what the hell is this about a potential release date with no information?

That reeks of AI-generated bullshit with a catchy title

I'm very sad they are closing shop, but I understand it.

I find their last DLC awfully expensive, but I think I'll buy them anyway, as I really loved all their games (bought desperados 3 day 1, same for shadow gambit, and no regrets).

Their games were crafted with love, and it shows. If you haven't, go and try them on, it's a fun genre.

I started playing because I had nostalgia for the commandos games, but they really refined the gameplay and made the different difficulty modes so everyone can have fun.

I have a old gaming laptop that is not supported.

Intel i7-7820HK, 4cores 8 threads 2.9Ghz.

Released in 2017.

That's not old-arse as far as I'm concerned, and I don't see the need for an upgrade. I'm going to install Linux on this PC because I have the know-how and desire to check out how electron fares. But I can see how that is not an option for everyone.

Regarding "the company made the new tech incompatible with the new tech to force people to buy the new", I'll invoke Hanlon's razor.

I worked for a software company that was bought out by a microscope company, because they realized making a new software from scratch for each microscope was very expensive.

They did not have the know-how to reuse the software.

And yes. They were that bad at software, when they bought us out, colleagues of mine audited the software they were writing for their newest microscope, and it was so bad they threw out the whole thing to start from scratch, with proper software engineering practices.

Also, there is an open source toolkit that is pretty good at reading microscope data called VTK (IIRC it's developed partly by Zeiss, one of the two main microscope manufacturers).

I disagree, the Abaya is not just a flowing robe.

It is a garment that is required by the Sharia law (see Saudi Arabia and other Muslim countries where women are not allowed to choose what they wear).

Allowing this is the first step in letting religion in the public schools in France, where it has always been explicitly banned.

And it is very unlike banning rainbows, those are a symbol used to promote acceptance of the diversity of others, something religions struggle with (ever notice how religion is closely tied with extremism?)

Another factor to take into account is that these young girl may be forced by their family to wear such a garment, imposing upon them something they may not be old enough to refuse.

Also, look up the paradox of intolerance, as allowing anyone to do as they please causes the rise of extremism.

Hi ! Since this community is brand new, let's get it started with the classic recommendations thread :-)

I haven't read mangas in a while, and my favorite were (in no particular order)

  • Kenshin
  • Hunter X Hunter
  • GTO

I also liked one piece, but got out a few years ago and now catching up seems like quite a bit of work, and the start of Naruto before stuff got too weird.

Do you have good mangas to recommend for me ?

Thanks a lot :-)
