TIL tour guides were supposed to be licensed here. Imagine the audacity though, to walk into a bakery and start making up stories about its history right in front of the owner lol.

The lineup this year looks so good! Disappointing Nic Cage won't actually be able to join in, but understandable because fuck the studios, honestly. Sympathy for the Devil does look so good and I'm sad I wasn't able to get tickets :( I'm focusing mainly on full length features, although #BossBabe looks great! A Disturbance in the Force looks pretty hilarious too, and I'm going to also try and get into as many Larry Kent films as I can afford lol. Stay Online might actually be a bit too hard to watch, so I'm still on the fence about whether I have the emotional energy to see that one. tOuch Kink is also on my list. What are y'all gonna check out?

Brazeau is an interesting example, because he has engaged in some advocacy for vulnerable populations in recent years (e.g. warning labels on alcohol, pushing for research on male suicide). Does not absolve him at all of his past shenanigans, but I'd say he's not lock-in-step the same as Duffy or Beyak and that ilk. Seems like he's learned a little bit about what public office should be about.

This asshole, on the other hand... Senators should absolutely face sanctions, at the very least, for supporting seditious fuckwads and saying their voice matters over the everyday citizens that make up most of the population of Ottawa.

REITS need to be banned. People owning multiple homes should face a heavy tax that only increases with each property you hoard. Fuck this noise.

Wait, you guys are gonna be able to retire? /s

It's been pretty obvious to me most of my adult life that people like myself will always only ever struggle to make ends meet and will never have the luxury of not working (I'm mid 30s now). Honestly, that's the only rather perverse upside to our current state of greedflation, that sense of "hey, it's not just me anymore, it's everyone". Plenty of people out there feel like people in poverty deserve it somehow, and aren't shy in expressing that, so watching them struggle to be poor has been... an experience of awful validation, I guess is how I would describe it. But to the point, the work I do now I'll be able to do when I'm elderly and/or ill too, it's not physically taxing at all, so that's my old age plan lol.

I mean, the intent behind these kinds of businesses is activism, really. They're definitely taking a page out of the Marc Emery playbook with their business model, forcing law enforcement to sort of play wack-a-mole with multiple locations but being super duper obvious with their presence as a business, and using that to really highlight the disproportionate investment of resources in the enforcement of some rather archaic drug laws.

I think BC and QC have concetrated communities of anti-science individuals, which makes the ignorance seem more prevalent than it actually is. Then again, the number of people I know who recognize naturopathy is bullshit but then routinely see a chiropractor is WAY too high

I looked at my settings and couldn't find anything relevant. I previously had 100 posts displayed per page set up on old reddit, and this is the only thing I'm finding ever-so-slightly annoying about lemmy. Is this a thing that I've just not been able to find? Or something the instance might be able to implement in the future? I wish I knew enough about scripting, markup and programming languages to actually contribute myself here, the lemmy.ca admins have a ton of work on their plate (and are doing a FANTASTIC job, thank you for your efforts!!) but my knowledge is veeery basic in that regard.

I need to break out of my Allo Mon Coco rut (those potatoes tho omg). What's your favourite place to head to for breakfast on the island?

EDIT- these are all awesome suggestions that are now on my list of places to check out, merci!!

He has actively courted incels and such on social media with hash tags. This isn't a slip up, these people are his base. The only thing he's sorry for is that people who aren't raging hateful assholes notice.

It's just insane to me that Smith and her supporters can look around and say "nope, we gotta defend O&G and the status quo". With ocean and surface temperature records being broken on a daily basis now

[-] oneofthemladygoats@lemmy.ca 22 points 1 year ago

He literally fired the team in charge of that 😆

Oh just stop with this nonsense. Your statement about "convoluting factors" demonstrates your complete and total ignorance of the strength and weight and sheer amount of evidence behind mRNA technology available at this point. Antivaxx talking points rely on these fundamental misunderstandings and ignorance, lmfao at your attempt to condescend to lay people in this way when you clearly don't even know how RCTs are run or fundamentally work. There are actually decades of research behind this stuff at this point, this misinformation is tired and old. And so easily disproven by listening to people who understand the science, who work with the science, who have engaged with the evidence. And to pre-emptively rebuttal against the appeal to authority you might be chomping at the bit to make- being a pioneer a few decades ago in the field means nothing if you haven't kept abreast to new discoveries, innovations, and evidence. I can just see you being "part of the community" as a lab manager or something, a pencil pusher at best, nothing more and certainly not someone with the training to understand the statements you're making.

The fun part of this whole issue is that since SCOTUS has recently established people can bring forward made-up cases based on "what ifs" for violating fundamental rights and causing harm, someone in the US could plausibly sue people like you for the potential harm you may cause, because we're talking not just about a mountain of biological and medical research, but an overwhelming amount of epidemiological data as well. Literal population-level bodies of evidence concerning how much harms views like yours have caused. Fun, eh?

Medical doctors who didn't follow the evidence deserved to be spoken over and shut down by their peers. If you fail in your fundamental understanding of what your job is, the basic science behind medicine, you shouldn't be practicing anymore.

And if we're talking about comparisons to things like lobotomy, again, and I'll say it slow for you so you can follow closely- The. Strength. Of. The. Evidence. Matters. When the evidence that lobotomy is incredibly harmful and not treating the issues it was purported to treat in any way became overwhelming, guess what? The standards changed. When the evidence is overwhelming yet you still cling to conspiracies, you deserve to be shut down, no one owes you a platform for your deceit and lies and misinformation.

Craig Norris is a big advocate of independent Canadian artists, I can't not start this community up without sharing what he's currently working on :) DAE miss the R3-30?

ICYMI, the entire Red Green series is available for free on a couple of platforms- Youtube linked here, it's also available on Tubi (a free streaming platform), and I believe I saw mention it's on Pluto as well but I haven't checked out that service yet. A Canadian classic!

A really good read, and it delves a little into the etymology of "drag" in addition to the intersectional history which I thought was pretty fascinating!

Any of y'all interested in having a sort of mtl-themed book club here? There is a pretty fantastic homegrown literary scene in this city, so I doubt we'd be lacking in titles to choose from. One book every month or two, and we could discuss in a corresponding thread, something like that. If there's interest, I'm happy to coordinate :)

EDIT- really happy there's some interest!! I'll draw up a list of possible books to choose from in the next few days and reach out to those who comment for your thoughts so as not to clog up the community with constant posts. Once we've got the first book picked I'll make another post for discussion, unless y'all think a different structure would work, lmk!! :)

I'm guessing that "certain parts" for them is simply trans people being visible. They should be aware of the high risk of suicide as they claim they were formally a therapist in a past comment, but they disagree with the value of gender affirming care so I really doubt there's any semblence of compassion for queer people in that ugly little heart of theirs. What kind of person reviews the body of evidence that shows it saves lives and think "this LGBTQ stuff is going too far", jfc

[-] oneofthemladygoats@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 year ago

You are the very last thing from ally. Wading through the transphobia all over your post history, you've clearly stated you don't even believe in gender affirming care. If you're constantly being told that you're alt-right when you believe you're not, as you claim in another comment, or need to complain how everyone calls you a bigot when you express these opinions, maybe you need to reflect a little bit more on the beliefs you're trying to push on others. Because let's be very clear here, you're saying it's unacceptable and too extreme to accept trans people for who they are. That queer people existing openly is "an invasive culture". You're seeking compromise over someone being able to freely be themselves, safely and without fear. Nah, bigot, YOU can be the one to compromise, and shush. Anyone pushing opinions that break the treaty of tolerance doesn't deserve respect or consideration.

I really miss Eater Montreal's lists they used to release, but it looks like Tourisme Montreal might be a decent alternative, for new restaurants at least. If you have any suggestions, for blog sites or places to check out, please share!

Hi everyone! I'm looking for any advice y'all might have on incorporating yogurt into your dough, particularly when making flatbread. Most recipes I've found online so far are by volume :( so I can't really get a sense of what % to try for. I'm at the point where I usually just pick a target hydration % and go from there, but I'm not quite sure how to account for incorporating yogurt in that approach. Any words of wisdom? Thanks!
