Kind of a "fluff" episode, it doesn't progress the plot too much but still great to watch - with bits of worldbuilding (the tengu) and characterisation.

Love troubles going from Hakuro to Benimaru to Rimuru. Poor guys (and slime).

I'm going blind into this series (I didn't read the source), so you can pretty much imagine how big of an urge to punch the screen Tobias is giving me. "Waaah, you're too tall!" "Waah, don't drink so much", "Waah" aaah sod off you muppet!

Work-wise Dahlia is clearly a one-of-a-kind artificer. It's easy to think "I'm going to reinvent [thing] in isekai!", but that diligence that she shows - researching things, thinking on how to solve issues etc. - is not for everyone. And yet it's what makes someone exceptional at a craft.

Sofia's face when Makoto correctly understood how the Prison of Swords worked, and proceeded to destroy the swords, was amazing!

As well as Makoto's "sorcerer? close combat fighter? nah, I'm an archer!". Sofia was having such a hard time with Makoto, only to discover that he wasn't even playing his strongest cards yet.

Hibiki has no standing ground to call Makoto's super awesome armour "weird cosplay". Just saying~

The episode felt like a warm-up for the next one, I'm mildly excited to see Makoto vs Sofia.

So many great things about this episode.

Paul and Rudeus' mended relationship. He's certainly better than he was before, as a human being, but still being recognisably Paul - a pervert who tries to brag about stuff and look cool in front of his son. Also mending his relationship with Elinalise, with Rudeus' internal voice mocking Paul for not knowing that they're "family" now, mwahaha.

Geese still calling Rudeus senpai, after all those years. That TP book happening to be just perfect to brave that labyrinth would, most of the time, feel like a deus ex machina; but here it felt incredibly natural.

But the cherry on the cake was the end of the episode. It was just... right, you know? Roxy being surrounded by monsters, losing all hope, only to see the threat suddenly gone and some young man - her saviour - walking in, with a smile on his face. They could've animated Rudeus reaching her (how did he know that she was there?) but I guess that they'll do it for the next episode?

Like that other user often says... peak fiction.

That's mostly for show. The impact of their recent measures on the population pirating stuff is next to zero, and that even if they jail someone you'll get 10 new streamers on their place.

It was the same thing with the alleged seizure of people streaming for TV boxes. (Mine still works fine, by the way.)

This episode in a nutshell, for me: those poke a jaguar with a short stick and those who are wiser than that. Laurel/Sairitsu is handling Makoto in a cunning and smarter way, while the Hopleys family... eh.

...but then the jaguar turns upside down for belly rubs. Goddammit Makoto, you almost spilled the beans about being from another world with the kudzu vs. medicine reading of "kuzu"!

False compared the situation of Japanese in Laurel with Latin. False is extra messy to explain stuff, and this info is second-hand for them, but I think that I got it:

  • Japanese as used by Makoto would be like Vulgar Latin. It's simply a language spoken by a population.
  • Japanese as used in Laurel would be like Mediaeval + Modern Latin, after the Romance split. It's a prestigious variety, partially derived from the above, without native speakers.

Damn great episode to start the second part of the season: some adventure, romance, new plot (Zanoba with the doll), and the best of all: THE ED ARC IS GONE!

And it's great to see Rudeus evolving as a human being. Specially through his interactions with Sylphy: the difference in his mindset from when they first met to now is huge, and yet it was done through small steps.

Damn, it has been so long since I watched the original series... I forgot how heartwarming it was.

I like the idea of telling how Lawrence met Holo through a story within the story. (Also, if you're a fan of the series, you probably noticed right off the bat whom Holo was telling that story to.) And, overall, the first episode left me pleased - it was just the right amount of detail for me, while focusing on their relationship.

I wonder what the church would do if they discovered that Makoto has more mana than the bug/goddess. Not that they'll ever know!

The new OP has Makoto wearing that power ranger costume made by Mio. Given his mana matter... vest? golem? mecha?, he'll likely do it to appease Mio, not as a serious weapon.

Aura has such a great design, it's a shame that she was intended as a villain to kill and forget.
