you would think so, but somehow that never seems to be the case in practice. software has just been getting way more simplified visually while also getting way heavier with the likes of electron, GTK4, QML, etc.

for example, gnome-calculator uses nearly 300 MB of RAM on my system. that's significantly more memory than my entire desktop environment (trinity). in the '00s everything was plastered with glossy skeuomorphic textures, 3D animations, transparency with blur, etc. and running all these different glossy programs together on one system still left you with a smaller memory footprint than gnome's calculator.

we are fucked and our UIs don't even get to be pretty anymore.

society as we know it fucking sucks so GOOD

The next generations are going to suffer tremendously for the loss of American culture, science, industry, and empire.

fucking insane the way you ghouls say this kinda shit so openly. your beloved "empire" falling would be a net positive for the world and the future generations that would be exploited, raped, and bombed by the US

as for "american culture", the only real example of that was native american culture and the US destroyed that too.

read the article. they're using brave's open source adblock library; brave isn't paying them to do this.

our planet can't be replaced either, so which is more important to you?

instilling a form of authoritarianism (trampling over what the founding fathers fought for)

literally what could be more "authoritarian" than owning a fuckton of slaves? the founding fathers wouldn't have liked him because by their racist, slave-owning, genocidal rapist standards, trump is too progressive.

it would do the world a lot of good if american liberals would stop glazing these assholes and finally admit that the US itself is the problem and stop using trump as a sin-eater for centuries of genocide, imperialism, and systemic oppression.

lots of pre-2020s devices mainly

i often use a thinkpad X230 where the resolution is a whopping 1366x768 lol

it's an updated fork i'm working on. i don't have much to share yet because it's still a WIP but it'll be available here in the future

not yet (it's still a bit of a work in progress) but in the future it'll be posted here

But also, I dont think you’re right i am right

i respect the need for accessibility, but i don't like not having options. if your vertical resolution is lower than 1080 going into about:config and re-enabling the deprecated compact mode is almost a necessity, and who knows how long that's going to last.

the netscape theme does use a lot of space by default, but importantly, it doesn't have to. text below icons can be turned off, icon size can be reduced, toolbars can be merged, etc. and if it's still too much, this browser a complete theme library, which was something firefox killed off years ago.

firefox's photon theme uses the same amount of space and that's without the menubar enabled ¯\(ツ)

yes and yes

it's a custom build of seamonkey (the continuation of the mozilla suite/classic netscape) using pale moon's goanna engine.

works well enough for most sites, the browser itself is super modular and useful (it has a really strong addon ecosystem courtesy of seamonkey and pale moon's addon libraries respectively), and honestly i just enjoy utilitarian retro UX
