To answer your initial question with a personal success story I can recommend a supplier in Spain called Slimbook.

https://slimbook.com/en/

I bought one of their Evo 14 models with Mint installed for a mate and everything worked straight out of the box.

I'm in the UK so delivery was very good but as expected with customs etc. Comms & service from Slimbook were excellent.

The machine is excellent and works flawlessly. Configuration on their site is a doddle. There are a few reviews of their machines around.

(I've used Linux on various machines for twenty years - currently a mini PC, an old MacBook and three HP Streams; I've installed linux for friends & customers.)

I'll either buy a Framework or Slimbook next. Hope that helps.

Well worth a read. Interesting, pithy & informative. Thanks.

Yes! Sorry about that... Although there was a grey/brown/sludge colour that was worse than avocado. Real avocados though were rarer than avocado bathroom suites.

Sweets were rationed when I was born. Sometime later I sold avocado bathroom suites...

Pleasure! You've inspired me to change my habits & look beyond Tabasco too.

The Flying Lizards: The Flying Lizards, and Pastel Blues: Nina Simone... DVDs.

The Flying Lizards is wonderful, but
Pastel Blues is just incredible & fantastic & heart rending.

Okay. The glasses might have been a stretch - it seems special screenings are occasionally offered. More info... https://www.yourlocalcinema.com/explain.html

Still interesting, thanks.

No volume control. No sound channel EQ. No subtitle option compared to home DVD or some streaming.

As a hearing aid wearer the turned-up-to-eleven sound level combined with unequal balance between voice and music/effects is borderline unbearable.

Max bass, max reverb, max audio compression, plus muttering and whispering by so many actors being recorded at low levels, combine to make cinema visits something to be endured.
