Survey on the boat is supposed to be this week but there is a weather system developing off the coast and it’s bringing high winds and rough seas. Not very conducive to a haul out and sea trial so we may have to delay it to the following week, which will push back everything else with the purchase and getting on board. Ah well, they say you shouldn’t sail to a schedule, I guess you shouldn’t try buying a sailboat to a schedule either!

Thanks! Depends significantly on the lake (size, surrounding terrain etc). Taupo can be pretty unpredictable. You’ll have no wind at all and then all of a sudden be on your side. Beautiful though and great swimming. Highly recommend!

P.S. I have also sailed very different boats in lakes vs. sea so that’s another factor to counter in.

Christmas 2023 on Lake Taupo

We are buying the boat along the east coast of America so we are going to hopefully start by exploring the north of the east coast/Canada and then head down to the Caribbean for Christmas. After that, who knows. Fun fact: she was a marker boat for the Americas cup in NZ so she can certainly get us back home if we muster up the confidence!

Thanks! Yes a sailboat. We’ve been getting ready for this for quite a while. Took a bunch of courses and bought a starter boat that we would go away for a few months at a time in to see if it was really something we could do and to make sure the dog could handle it. We did that for a few years and learnt what we wanted from a full time boat. I hope the inspection goes well. Can’t wait to finally start the big adventure! It will probably be quite a while until we feel experienced enough to cross oceans but I’m just excited to spend more time on the water!

Stuck in interviews all week. Trying to find somebody to help with my project. Is a full time job right now. In other news, we are buying a boat and planning on living on it. All the inspections have been organised this week so we are one step closer and I’m really excited!

Yay! Yeah we have definitely put our one through some abuse. It’s nice to see ours wasn’t a one off and they were just making good quality products back then!

Oh no! Yeah that’s why I put the comment at the end. It’s such a shame but the cost cutting is definitely a reality. I got mine when they were fairly new to the market but a quick Google search says Logitech already owned them before they even started making the UE Boom speakers. It’s nice to see that others on here have had similar experiences with them but I guess maybe they are not something to buy new these days.

I was looking at my little speaker the other day and thinking to myself about how well it has done. My husband bought it for me about 10 years ago when we were just dating and had moved halfway across the world together with little money. It seemed like a big splurge at the time and we were using it to watch tv shows on our laptop without relying on the tinny laptop speakers (we didn’t have a tv). Fast forward to now and that speaker has traveled all over the place, been to the beach, been camping, been on sailing trips etc. and it still holds a charge really well and has pretty decent audio quality for its size. It even still looks good. I think ten years is pretty good for a little Bluetooth speaker, personally (maybe that's a normal amount of time?). Hopefully I can get many more years out of it. Anyway it feels strange to bring up older items and recommend them as BIFL because you never know if manufacturers have kept up their quality over the years. If these speakers are still being made with the same quality i definitely recommend them.

What country are you in? I would recommend bondi sands hydra but if you are in the States you cannot get it and your options get quite limited.

My Lemmy app flagged this as NSFW 😂

Trilogy Rosehip Transformation cleansing oil, Bloomeffects royal tulip nectar moisturising nectar and Bondi Sands Hydra UV protect SPF 50+ face fluid. It's hard to choose between Tretinoin and the Bloomeffects moisturiser, especially since I think the tretinoin has more of an overall effect on my skin but for the times i need moisturiser I REALLY need moisturiser. If I were allowed to have the moisturiser as a back up item that was hidden away in my back up cabinet I would choose Tret instead as part of my 3 :D
