The word of a pandemic would spread regardless of CDC. When Covid started there where rumors in Europe (Jan 2020) of people dropping dead on the streets in China. By February there where videos of tourists in China going around with masks because everybody else was. A word spreads faster than a virus.

Calling a product the same as your brand is like calling a movie "The". Good luck finding it online.
I'm with you on Signal. Problem is most of WhatsApp users see Telegram, not Signal, as an alternative because it had more coverage over time, while Signal had zero.
Proton is based in Switzerland. If anything, I get the message that the only services that are Trump-proof are based in China or France, because everybody else has lost their fucking mind.
