Amazing how he looks like an annoying Seinfeld extra in that picture.

I'd hope that on linux annoyed users would easily hack it out, compared to stuff like windows. But sadly that is also expecting active users who can do coding and then can/want to spread that code, and then being able to trust that code. I have seen in other places how much of a mess that can be.

While I like it, I wish there were more people pushing back and it not just being people involved with van Rooij. Makes it to easy to dismiss the concerns as just her being a crank. (Which I don't think she is obviously, just wish there were more people in academia pushing harder back).

There are 'user uses AI/has AI profile' lists to they really are objecting to the word 'slop'.

'slop is a slur' discourse incoming in T minus -100.

Could also just be accidental stuff. I mean if you google and you get an AI reply, does that count for example? How many of it is 'my boss said I should use it, so I tossed some questions in there for the stats'.

Stuff like this has been coming for a while now, and I hate it. See also how your windows login screen can have ads on it.

Considering the rate of return on advertisements, I don't think this is a financially good sign.

And interestingly a friend of mine who basically only games switched to Linux, and it seemed to have been rather painless. And most of his games work with minimal fiddling. (And there are even tools to help you with 'which games of my library will not run well'. Which did surprisingly well on his large library. So linux on the desktop might be closer than we think).

Amusing just how basic his insults and ideas about the left are. This is generic drunken bar patron shit. Lot of projection there. You lost it Moldy, you need to add more obscure references so you don't come off so reactionary/reactive mid.

i wonder what else he had go wrong the last period he needed a distraction like this

Going on the Grok output, I saw: Conservapedia with more uses of the word fuck (it can now use the word fuck), extremely verbose mid insults and weird flirting.

Or add a rocket booster.

the site didn’t have an ssl cert, since that was a way “modern browsers control you”.

I feel attacked. Not in the 'I agree with this person' way, but in a way that this feels like nerd sniping people like me. So stupid you have to react.

Java 8

See! That is what I mean!

But as somebody who values old cultures, I will not throw stones. ;)

Also the guy is an eugenicist wannabe cult leader.

'some of the most bigoted things'

You mean stuff like 'no this is stupid, wtf is wrong with you' or 'lol, look they really think LLMs are alive' stuff like that? The worst I saw (granted I didn't look very hard) was 'ok boomer'.

Of course actual meanings of words mean nothing to AI fans.

(Also, thing which is a personal gripe, the skeet before the 'bigotry neuron' has 2 images in it, without alt text. If you are going to pretend to value progressive values, at least put in some effort).

Via reddits sneerclub. Thanks u/aiworldism.

I have called LW a cult incubator for a while now, and while the term has not catched on, nice to see more reporting on the problem that lw makes you more likely to join a cult.

As found by @gerikson here, more from the anti anti TESCREAL crowd. How the antis are actually R9PRESENTATIONALism. Ottokar expanded on their idea in a blog post.

I have not read the bigger blog post yet btw, just assumed it would be sneerable and posted it here for everyone's amusement. Learn about your own true motives today. (This could be a troll of course, boy does he drop a lot of names and thinks that is enough to link things).

Begrudgingly Yeast (@begrudginglyyeast.bsky.social) on bsky informed me that I should read this short story called 'Death and the Gorgon' by Greg Egan as he has a good handle on the subjects/subjects we talk about. We have talked about Greg before on Reddit.

I was glad I did, so going to suggest that more people he do it. The only complaint you can have is that it gives no real 'steelman' airtime to the subjects/subjects it is being negative about. But well, he doesn't have to, he isn't the guardian. Anyway, not going to spoil it, best to just give it a read.

And if you are wondering, did the lesswrongers also read it? Of course: https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/hx5EkHFH5hGzngZDs/comment-on-death-and-the-gorgon (Warning, spoilers for the story)

(Note im not sure this pdf was intended to be public, I did find it on google, but might not be meant to be accessible this way).

Some light sneerclub content in these dark times.

Eliezer complements Musk on the creation of community notes. (A project which predates the takeover of twitter by a couple of years (see the join date: https://twitter.com/CommunityNotes )).

In reaction Musk admits he never read HPMOR and he suggests a watered down Turing test involving HPMOR.

Eliezer invents HPMOR wireheads in reaction to this.
