I don't know all the facts but maybe if more people.votrd in the first place Donald wouldn't have won? Maybe not.. But Americans should be pushing back and they haven't done anything yet but complain online. Pushing any single one of them to take action is better than only attempting to punish the ones who don't even care.

Yeah depending on what OP wants to do with the machines. I've been gaming on Linux for over a year now on my desktop and haven't had any issues. Especially since they're using AMD cards.

Yeah I agree. I'm trying to be optimistic about whoever we have next isn't going to sell us out or pull a USA. PP doesn't instill much confidence but I just hope he has some heart or desire to do good and not be evil.

Not that I support PP (also I hate that I need to specify that first) but he's got a couple videos on YouTube that I thought were fairly well done addressing a couple things regarding trade and some plans.

Thanks a lot for Immich and for posting here. Much appreciated the hard work this year and helping myself and family on our self hosted journey.

Performance mostly, encoding is better, reducing load on my NAS and using it specifically for storage. Immich performs better as well, it's pretty resource hungry I found. I also am planning to set up Frigate for home security and that's the main reason I wanted something with a bit more power.

I just recently discovered proxmox and am slowly moving my docker containers off my NAS. Picked up a used Intel NUC, i5-8259, 32gb ram, 512gb HDD. It's been great so far, very happy with its ability paired with proxmox.

I downloaded and tested as well and noticed right away there is no sleep timer which I use every night. I actually quite like the audiobook shelf app. It's served my wife and I quite well this past year.

Why is this thread full of people who want the human race to be eradicated? There are good people and beautiful things in this world that humans have been involved in.

I currently use an old (2013?) Intel NUC with a 12TB MyBook plugged in as a simple Plex server. I want to get a NAS. Right now at Amazon or B&H I can get a DS923+ w/ two 16TB HDDS for about $1000.

My main question is if I should try to go the DIY route. Am I going to possibly regret putting all my eggs in the Synology basket? I like the DS923+ because of it's small form factor mainly. But I am sort of keen to use an open source OS like TrueNas.

My main uses are going to be Plex hosting, photo management for myself and wife and data backup. I am a bit of an enthusiast when it comes to electronics. I love messing around with things, trying new software, breaking stuff and fixing it. Are there any major restrictions I am going to experience with Synology? Thanks a bunch!

-edit- Thank you everyone for all the replies! Super helpful, Lemmy rocks :)

I currently use an Ubuntu distro (Mint) with Plex installed serving media to my local network. I installed docker last night so I can test out some photo hosting services.

Is there a benefit to running Plex through docker vs the traditional method?
