Gothic metal with heavy touches of black and folk metal. From Portugal, in 1995. Linked is the closer to their debut, and my personal favorite of theirs, nothing else tops this. Reminds me a lot of certain Moonsorrow tracks.

Dissonant black/death metal with a different, hostile atmosphere that smacks you in the face. Linked is the single from their upcoming fourth album Doomed.

German heavy/speed/power metal from 1988! Normally I'd've posted this in !heavymetal@lemmy.world but I feel it has more in common with my other speed metal uploads.

Alright, so I have a younger sister that started getting into punk and shit like that when we were both growin up, eventually settled on Sum 41 for a good year or two, and bought all their albums eventually. She'd blast em in her room, so occasionally I'd hear bits n pieces that catch my ear, like this very song lmao.

[–] Myr@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yep, that's one of their most played songs on Tidal. Comes from their first album - All Killer, No Filler.

Hear me out guys lol - give this ONE song a try! I don't recommend anything else that they've made, except for maybe the track Pain for Pleasure on a different album. I was honestly completely surprised to see a Metallica-inspired thrash metal song right smack dab in the middle of a skate punk/pop punk album lmao.

Tidal, RateYourMusic, and by gosh wouldn't you know it, not METAL enough for Metal Archives, well shucks.

So.. Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters and Nirvana fame basically, practically solo produced an extreme metal album, mixing all sorts of genres from sludge, black, doom, heavy, thrash, and even alternative metal plus some punk on top of that. He definitely took the kitchen sink approach lol. It's not all that bad either! Linked is the single of the self titled album with a faster tempo and some catchy riffs.

There is a Bandcamp, but features no info nor does it contain this release.

EDIT: ok so It turns out this "band" was created for a movie called Studio 666, which is a comedy horror starring the Foo Fighters and has a bunch of this album's music as part of the soundtrack lol.

Today we have some pure thrash, very similar to Slayer's Hell Awaits mixed a little with Demolition Hammer's Epidemic of Violence. Intense as all hell, this is from this Norwegian band's 2007 EP, We're Rotting.

My turn to post some ST. This isn't classic at all, but it's at least better than the single that just came out this past April lol.

Today I post some dense technical thrash - from Quebec, Canada in 1990. For those of us who need a few listens before it catches and worms its way into our ears. Typical progressive guitars with the strange-filling drumming and the bass is off doin its own thing lol. Somehow it all works and becomes brilliant along the way. Linked is the opening title track, but I also highly recommend the instrumental Access to the Acropolis.

Fuck yeah! 🤘 Those of us at !heavymetal@lemmy.world would appreciate it as well I think!

I was impressed with that one Antichrist upload the other day I had to search up similar artists and came across this one, another black/speed/thrash metal band from Germany; though the black part seems to be missing on this album released in 2023. Linked is my personal fav from the album, it starts off with this weird middle eastern rhythm that moves into typical speed metal fury, but bringing it back in the chorus sections.

I was thinking as I made this post "this reminds me a shitload of Vektor" so that's pretty damn cool haha.

1990, technical death metal with technical thrash from Florida, USA. Notable release for its use of keys, whether it's for atmosphere or a backing instrument, they definitely give off this sci-fi vibe.

Dont sweat it my guy. Life happens lol

Also hell yeah, great band 🤘

Another fantastic find from my search for instrumental stuff, which the track Minotaur from this album fuckin rules, holy shit. But this track I'm sharing with you today actually has lyrics and a voice! From Sweden in 2011, this is black/speed/thrash metal, and it's got this rough production that's reminiscent of early Destruction with the first Exodus album, and a bit of Venom - all mixed together and blisteringly fast lol.

In my opinion, this is where Vader peaked in their career, with this epic heavy sound. Every track felt like it had this gravitas to it that you just couldn't ignore. Standouts being Shadowfear, Helleluyah, and Warlords.

Unavailable on most streaming services.

Found this while digging around a shit load - https://tidal.com/browse/album/9641103?u

Pretty decent 25 minute slab of modern thrash instrumental!

[–] Myr@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Honestly they could go the instrumental only route, which probably isn't gonna bring em success, but their playing is damn good enough.

Like these guys are quickly becoming favorites of mine upon going through their older albums. I absolutely love the title track to Watch the Skies! If I were to ever pick up a guitar, it would just be repeating the opening riffs ad infinitum lmao.

Resentful.

Probably turning into Bitterness at one point in the future.

[–] Myr@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Nooo where's the energy?? At least the instruments are still killing it, man..

[–] Myr@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (7 children)

Haha, cheers. There's 8 months of daily posts to dig through!

Shame about the vocalist leaving, I'll have to check the single just out of curiosity's sake.

Woah you have a knack for finding quality thrash acts that I somehow miss xD

This one's voice reminds me a shit load of Agent Steel's vocalist mixed with a pinch of Bruce Dickinson; I'd kill to hear a falsetto wail from Space Chaser's vocalist lol. The instruments are tight as hell too! Another for the long-ass playlist!

EDIT: I actually get what I want in their earlier works - on track number one of their Watch the Skies! album, the vocalist sustains the end of a chorus wonderfully!
