I'll admit I didn't give the whole thing a listen just yet, but if the rest of it gets you in particular just right then it must be something great!

Haven't exactly had a lot of extra time lately lol, thank you for taking the time to listen to it all and write your thoughts here! I'll bump this album up in my priority.

Sweden's newer thrash act starting to gain traction and popularity, formed in 2023 and released their first EP in 2024. Linked is the opening title track. Great sound and taken influence from many a thrash classic of the past, this track reminds me of Heathen's No Stone Unturned during certain parts.

Admittedly posting non thrash again. My favorite melodic death metal band, Kalmah, have always had a strong influence from thrash, and this post here is promoting their thrashiest song imo.

Enjoy the massive wall of sound from this change in heaviness they made from their previous works - the riffs working overtime and the synths killing it.

Progressive stoner metal from NYC. Debut LP released in 2015, Linked is the opening track, a slow sludgy intro to speed up with a bit of a dip into hardcore and more fun to be had towards the end.

Another classic thrash revival band from California. This is their second album released in August of last year and it slipped under my radar till the title track appeared in my daily recommended, which is what I'll be linking today.

Sounds like these dudes mixed together the sounds/styles of Destruction, Forbidden, Annihilator and Testament. Makes for a technical, groovy, thrashing good time. The rest of the album is hit or miss for me, but the title track has a permanent spot in the ol' miles-long playlist now.\m/

Easily one of my top five death metal releases, be it EP or full length album. Killer guitar tone, sick as hell growl before it became as deep as it is today, drums still performing like they're from a more extreme thrash outfit. Always a good reason to return to this, especially the stomper Infecting the Crypts - which is linked, but I still recommend the whole thing (imperfect production and all.)

Atmospheric post-metal/sludge in a beautiful way. Kinda flowery if that makes sense, but a nice tune to kinda zone out to. Not heavy enough to be on Metal Archives, but once again - fuck em.

Fair, he does have a great full voice, very theatrical.

Largely underground and unknown Swedish thrash metal band that existed at some point in the 90's. As far as I can see, the only notable release was this cover of Metallica's Motorbreath lol. It's a decent cover, got a small tinge of death metal in there, and the attitude and speed is definitely on point. Not bad over all; ignore the tink tink tink of certain parts where the drums do a filler lmao.

Probably one of the worst CoF albums but I still hold on to this song. Apart from the kinda cringe-worthy poem spoken in the beginning, this is an instrumental of decent length and quality, a real standout from the rest of the "melodic black" and gothic metal from the rest of the LP.

Ha the voice threw me off a bit at first but it's growing on me lol.

So I love this game and its story and I've been playing a LOT of FFXIV lately. Got nostalgic for this, a heavy metal song featured in the opening act of the game, during a pre-rendered cutscene. Wild to me that a high fantasy JRPG of all things would do that back in 2001 lol so allow me to share it with you all.

Tidal, RateYourMusic, Fandom Wiki page about the song

Another apt track with themes that are supposed to be hypothetical extremes, yet we're actually seeing them playing out in real time. Only this song references The Iron Curtain - difference this time is everything is blatant and in front of everyone.

Belgium, 2021, debut LP from this post-metal/atmospheric progressive sludge metal group. Also the first group to be signed under Pelagic Records, which is the label that the creative head of the awesome atmospheric sludge metal group The Ocean created. Music is also very similar to the aforementioned lol.

Tidal, Bandcamp, RateYourMusic, not on Metal Archives :(

First EP this group from Sweden released, in 2018. Heavy psych/stoner doom metal with female vocals. Kinda hypnotic, and with a great bass sound. Also very playful, if that makes any sense.

This EP is on the shorter side, at around 28 minutes, if you decide to go on past the track I'm linking.

Happy to provide! I suppose I could do a "song.link" thingy, but I personally use Tidal, and want more ppl to use Tidal too >:D. Bandcamp is just super awesome for usually giving artists the biggest share of sales, and the last two for archival/knowledge/reviews.

Ooh yea, thanks for the heads up! With all the posting I've been doing in the other communities, I typically only found those aforementioned movements, genres? before, but will definitely keep an open eye out for others going forward.

Had a feelin you'd get a kick out of this one :D

[–] Myr@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Well said. I guess in general, you'd have to put genuine hard-fought effort to completely wash away any previous identity of any outputs, no matter who you are or what you do in art or what have you.

[–] Myr@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Totally same! In addition to thrash metal, death metal and other various extreme forms of our beloved sub genre !

[–] Myr@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

Hell yea, love this band!

I'm seeing lots of posts here lately that fit squarely in the heavy/power metal sector, !heavymetal@lemmy.world could use some of that love!

I can see it in the style lol

But sadly, not the same artist - Messiah's Artist

Demonic Death Judge's Artist who is also the guitarist

My pleasure. Got any recommendations from this band's other outputs?
