New single out today by successful Bay Area thrash revivalists. Sounds suspiciously a little too close to modern Metallica's groovy stuff, especially with those mid-paced beats. The solo is pretty sick though. New music vid too.

Our boys of Chile are back with more 90's style death/thrash, this time on more streaming services besides Bandcamp!

Bass guitar really stands out on this release (even a solo in track six), and to be quite honest, I wish more metal acts would allow the bass to take a more central roll - it gives this sound a real authentic heaviness that the buzzsaw guitars here kinda lack. Picked apart, though, the instruments obviously don't exactly stand on their own; everything works very well in service to this PtK style of deathrash.

There's an instrumental, the longest track on the album, and of course I've added it to my long-running instrumental playlist 😈. However, I've linked the title track as the highlight this time.

Hidden gem of the Teutonic scene, but played in the Bay area style, a bit similar to Forbidden. Last album of theirs that came out in 92, it's on the technical side of thrash with some speed metal, plus some keyboards used for atmospheric sections. Linking the fourth track, one of my highlights.

The guitarist from this band would go on to found the groove/thrash band Grip Inc. and produced many, many Century Media publications.

Sweden's broken up thrash act from the late 90's and early 2000's. Extreme thrash metal combining Kreator's early works, with Slayer's Reign in Blood, with a Sadus filter, giving it a nearly death metal sound. Pissed off and full of hate, I give you this only full album they ever released, linking the title track.

Mean death/thrash from Baltimore, a bit on the mean and messy side in design and sound, but also has a technical edge. Linking the most straightforward thrash song from this album.

Grip Inc.'s fourth and final album - linked is the middle wedge of the album. This groove metal band inescapably incorporated thrash essence thanks to the fantastic drumming by Dave Lombardo, plus the songwriting and axe-wielding of Waldemar Sorychta (mental note to take a look at his other band Despair at some point).

Crusty blackened Motörhead worship from Philly. Not exactly sure which genres to nail this to, but it's got enough speed metal to post here. Voice is dirty and strained, sometimes a bit shrieky. Gonna link the title track again, but my fav is probably Curse of the Black Witch

Punky death/thrash with a blackened touch. Kinda fuzzy, kinda bouncy, it's a fun dark good time. The june 2026 debut LP from this band from Washington D.C. Linked is the title track, but it's short enough to recommend the whole thing.

Revisiting another of my discoveries from last year, this German band released a new LP and combines many wonderful elements coupled with excellent songwriting and high energy. There's even a decent instrumental in there - automatic inclusion to my playlist!

Gonna link this speed metal track with a few melodic solos and a great catchy chorus. Hope these dude continue to hone this style cuz I'm a turning into a big fan.

So yep. Mister Bungle. Fuckin weird group, some of the most out-there, avant-garde bullshit ever put to record was by them. This album is not that - it's actually rather boring by comparison lmao. Crossover thrash and a bit of a harsher vocal performance from this band's demo days, but just rerecorded, AND they got Dave Lombardo on drums, not to mention Scott Ian from Anthrax on rhythm guitars.

Linking the best song from the bunch, with a rather unfortunate name, but the main riff is really infectious. Album is definitely for fans of stuff like S.O.D. and not for fans of the usual Mr. Bungle affair.

Hardcore/crossover and the groovier side of the Bay Area style thrash come together to make this album. The band seems to take heavy inspiration from Testament - I even hear stuff from those middling death metal albums through some of these tracks. Overall it's not bad at all, just a little on the nose with the hardcore elements.

Linking the second track as the crowd-pleasing mosher it is.

Dense af technical death/thrash with some jazz-fusion thrown in there for good measure. Gonna recommend and link the opener to their latest album, about a crash landing into some trippy shit. Album contains bits of Coroner, Atheist, and even some Ulcerate for those dissonant death metal fans. Only five tracks, but some are upwards of 20+ minutes long lol.
