Now just what in the hell is that doing there?

Edit: not sure you can make out the blurry captain of the Orville here getting scolded on the Enterprise

Where now the horse and the rider?

Did you miss “tranq”, short for tranquilizer? It’s pretty native and modern sounding right? That being said ya the list is disappointing

It's hard to come up with a circumstance and a buy-in where you can still have Star Trek adventures with real stakes and real peril, but it's also a school.

White Squall. In space. 🤞

when I realize I have no new treks to watch

Fuck yes, sign me up! ENT fans want to get fed!

The show ended right as Archer entered his prime, just after we saw him broken and beaten by a real year of hell. I want to see that prime era Archer (of which we were robbed) in flashbacks as the current one is once again broken and beaten by another year of hell.

I really hope they get this off the ground 🙏

and all distros jumped into the honeypot

As a filthy casual this is the most distressing part.

I’ve observed the situation shift in just a few years from

“~~Winter~~ Systemd is coming”

To

“~~Winter~~ Systemd is here, it’s everywhere, and i hate it”

Meanwhile, Final Fantasy Tactics with the translation-so-bad-it’s-might-be-a-masterpiece.

Actually interesting and novel ability names

Japanese: Dance with knives

1997 Localization: Wiznaibus

WotL Localization: Mincing Minuet

Dialog that pulls no punches

Japanese: My bad, but it's between you and your god

1997 Localization: Tough luck...Don't blame me. Blame yourself or God.

WoTL Localization: Forgive me. 'Tis your birth and faith that wrong you, not I.

Other gems lost in the improved localization:

  • “heavens wish to destroy all minds”
  • “the doom of a planet”
  • “evanescence, such a sad word”
  • “time, save your kindness for the worthy”

All that being said, the final fantasy gang is generally spectacular with English mastery. It’s like you can tell which books they like to read when they choose obscure words like Eidolon.

It’s obvious in HN because of the wide range of obscure topics (eg installing scaffolding on old British smoke stacks) that occasionally arise to the front page, all the ones on that topic are quickly flagged to oblivion.

You don’t have to be a genius to see the pattern 🤷‍♀️

One of those nobodies I’ve heard of and at least has a good song 🤷‍♀️, bigger than kiss by teenage bottle rocket

Hey I’m actually growing a black sapote!

Here’s a blurry pic of the fruit forming

Been here 5 days and I hate it already, I understand this vacancy now.

My personal journey of crawl > walk > run > slap

Yall got any of that hitbox porn?

still not worth watching subrosa

I really like the beginning, but it’s all downhill from there

I actually read somewhere that Archer did nothing wrong and afterward I began remembering all these scenes haha.

They're the things we carry with us, the things that make us who we are. If we lose them, we lose ourselves. I don't want my ~~pain~~ privacy taken away. I need my ~~pain~~ privacy!

Also, Engineering: divert all life support to shields and Helm: initiate attack pattern alpha 💪

House of Quark is a high point where he saves Quark’s life and allows a Klingon woman to inherit her own house.

Tacking Against The Wind is a low point where he is reduced to a cartoonish mustache-twirler.

The movie’s still great, but the book was really that amazing.

Possibly unpopular opinion: Harbinger is one of the absolute best episodes of Enterprise
