Cool! her ex owns 25% of your house. That's very generous of you.

you know what's REALLY wild? When I was a kid, there were roughly 4.5 billion people to feed every day. I'm not that old, but the global population has doubled in my lifetime. Crazy.

so… "this is good for both countries and will be an important part of Ukraine's recovery, but I will vote against it because I can't go on record voting for anything that mentions the magic words 'carbon pricing'. sorry. would have loved to help, but CARBON!"

[-] JustADrone@lemmy.ca 7 points 8 months ago

double the carbon tax, put it all toward NATO spending. All of the lifted F150s with military-adjacent bumper stickers would probably support that, right?

I assume the same "pristine viewscapes" bullshit will apply to oil & gas and coal mines etc. (of course it won't)

My parents voted blue their entire lives, including from the nursing homes they got to spend their final years in, where they complained about how bad healthcare and seniors care were and why weren't they funded better and why were there so many immigrants doing the work instead of real Canadians - and then dutifully voting as blue as possible because what else are they going to do?

see also: insurance caps, mining, abandoned wells, etc etc. Some company (via a rich guy) says we need to do (or not do) this? On it! Actual human people say we need to do something? WOKE LEFTY LIBERAL TEARS!

[-] JustADrone@lemmy.ca 5 points 11 months ago

if they were just being pragmatic, I'd understand. But they're frothing at the mouth to evangelize oil, and are busy fellating the oil industry with subsidies while simultaneously placing a moratorium on clean energy development in the province. It's maddening.

separation would require a referendum, which would have 0% chance of passing. nobody wants this, beside some whackos. this is all posturing by the UCP, both to their base and to the federal government.

They aren't ditching religion, they're making their own with a new idol. And I'm guessing many of them don't even realize what they're doing - they probably still think of themselves as Christians. This is the power of Trump's grifting.

There is no such thing as “self made”…
