Nah, you had to see the post it was in response to.

I didn't get a chance to screen shot it, but it was a six panel, about a guy that got rich talking to a friend about not knowing what to do now.

The friend gives a bunch of normal ideas like funding charities, and the rich guy in the last panel says, paraphrased, "I'll fuck children".

That's what the comment was springing off of. It was saying the same thing, just more exaggerated.

Depends on which parts of the family.

Most of the people on my dad's side are within an hour drive. Most of my mom's side is technically in another state, but it's only about a two hour drive. It would be less, but the fucking mountains.

Farthest away in state is a solid 3 hour drive. But, again, there's people in another state that are closer as the crow flies, but across the mountains so that it would take an extra hour just to get to where you could drive to them. It's one of those things where you can't get there from here, you have to go somewhere else first.

But I can hop on my scooter and be at my sister's in maybe five minutes. It's walking distance if you can walk that kind of distance in the first place. My brother is maybe a half hour drive.

Man, people are just addicted to drama, and so locked into their own heads that they can't step outside of it for even a minute.

Whatever comes with mint? I had a hard drive die, and my buddy hooked me up when I realized I couldn't read the windows key on the sticker any more. He was going to do some kind of fuckery to let me keep 7 despite that, but he'd been talking about Linux for a few years, so I asked what he thought about that.

He asked me a few questions, about what kind of programs I need to use, and when none of them were a pain in the ass for an idiot like me to deal with, he set it up for me. Told me it was mint, helped me set things up where they look nice and made sure I have what I need. Haven't fucked with anything since, and that was about two years ago.

The guy poured his time and energy into making any sub he was associated with being as relaxed, friendly, and free of bullshit as possible.

And the dude got death threats.

Reddit ran off the best mods, the ones that really cared. Most of those came here.

Most mods are like him, they're trying to help build something good, and keep it that way. Even the ones that wield the ban hammer often tend to only do so for disruptive assholes like me.

It's impossible here in any broad way. If an admin allowed it to go too far, they end up running off users, and possibly end up defederated if it gets really crazy.

There's already duplicates of half the c/s out there, particularly among the reddit copies.

You might think that power admins could be the equivalent problem, but we've already seen problematic instances be defederated widely.

Pretty much every instance out there right now that has enough users to have power mods already has specific rules against going bonkers with moderation.

It's a different system, a different culture, and the ultimate control is decentralized and distributed.

About the only people that could maybe upend that are the lemmy devs themselves, and it isn't like lemmy is impossible to fork. I couldn't do it, but there's plenty of folks that can. And, let's be real, those guys may be on the radical end of their political beliefs, but everything they've done so far points to them handling the project in a very socialist way. They could have forced the entire thing into an echo chamber instead of making it open source. They could have built in controls that would give them the ability to screw with instances remotely, but didn't.

So, nah, power mods aren't going to be a thing on lemmt any time soon. When it does happen, it'll be on single instances and rapidly handled.

Gee, I can't understand how my lgg3 is still in one piece, what with that replaceable battery making it so flimsy.

It's almost as if I'm imagining it being able to turn on because it fell apart when I sat it on the table three years ago.

Good thing it broke back then! Otherwise, I might have spent tens of dollars on replacement batteries each year!

Not to mention all the tablets that broke because they were flimsy with replaceable batteries. The galaxytab 2 and 3 alone would have blown up from materials fatigue if I'd replaced those batteries over the years. Whew, what a relief I don't have to have them in use as digital picture frames like I would have otherwise.
