It's not that simple. Racist folks in America don't care they are poor as long as minorities are even poorer. That's a huge part of Republican politics, that's why they vote for Trump. Trump doesn't promise them they will have better lives. It's all racist dog whistles promising them they will still be on top, they will be the 'better' race. That's why they oppose all sensible policies, because they will try to fix inequality and inequality is what they want.

And I don't think there's a simple fix for this. Many countries have this issue (UK, France) and the more progressive policies you try to push there the stronger the push back is. In the end it usually goes farther right until something terrible happens...

This is so sad. In Spain the government takes care of the central internet infrastructure and fiber is now available pretty much everywhere. You want to start an ISP? Just buy access to the central network and build the last mile. Every small town has it's on ISP or two. You want fiber? Some guy will show up tomorrow and lay down a cable to your house. $20-$30 a month without any termination fees. Last time I had to connected internet in new apartment it took literally couple hours.

USA should do the same but of course red states would block it and lobbyists for the corporations would fight it on every step. So instead they are giving free money to the telcos making sure the prices will stay high and no investment will be done.

Yep, I guess it's time to cancel Netflix.

Don’t underestimate the evangelicals, they will ignore the laws and act like martyrs when punished for it. Then they will run for office as defenders of the constitution and church, get elected, push even more evangelical agenda on everyone, be exposed as homosexuals, retire and live comfortably ever after.

It doesn't say more people overall use ad blockers. It says people that were already using them are now switching between different extensions. Let's wait and see if this increases Firefox's market share. This could be the real good outcome of all this.

I wanted to do a small tray icon plugin showing me weather alerts but the European weather alert system (whatever it's called) was using shitty API that would only return all alerts at the same time which was quite heavy. So I wrote a small server that would pull those twice a day, save in a DB and expose API with location param. Then I wrote lua plugin in awesome WM to get this and display info. After couple of months they changed the API and allowed filtering alerts by location...

Said like someone who can't afford an iPhone...

Just kidding, I use Samsung myself. It's crazy how easy it is to brainwash Americans into worshiping their corporate gods. Couple of good ads and they will die for their brand or choice.

I'm paying for Spotify and Netflix because they are very convenient. I'm not paying for another 5 subscriptions because they maybe have this one show I would like to watch. They worked hard on fragmenting the marked and now they will complain people don't want to pay for 10 different subscriptions
