I understand they need to recoup research costs, but…

Except they don't even need to do that, because, as is with most pharmaceuticals, the research was almost fully funded by the taxpayer.

And the 30% profit is for a generic product, so the research has already been done.

So yeah, 30% profit is of course much better than 3000%, but both are still obscene profiteering off of a lifesaving product paid for by, and then essentially withheld for ransom from, the general public.

Well obviously.. What's more important? The well being of the population, or the ability of the ruling class to suppress any resistance? Gotta keep those oil barons happy!

Your mistake is thinking democrats are "the left" lol

This quote comes to mind:

Nice people made the best Nazis. My mom grew up next to them. They got along, refused to make waves, looked the other way when things got ugly and focused on happier things than “politics.” They were lovely people who turned their heads as their neighbors were dragged away. You know who weren’t nice people? Resisters.

This makes my blood boil.

It'd be bad enough if it was just any random person, but being disabled myself, I know far too well how difficult, to practically impossible, it can be to find a place that isn't only suitable to live in, but where the landlords will even consider you in the first place instead of instantly putting your application in the reject pile because you or someone in your household is disabled (both of which result in a high rate of homelessness among disabled people).

There are so many different and equally distressing levels of heinous to this bullshit, from misogyny to ableism, to classism, to just plain old wilful ignorance and cruelty.

People like this civil servant should spend their time being eternally grateful to not be in such a position as this mother is, since they wouldn't survive a fucking hour in her shoes.

FUCK

The rich (and those licking their boots, even in these comments) would be well served to remember where the phrase "eat the rich" originates, and what the French (as should we all) do to those in power when they refuse to give up that power voluntarily.

Don't forget his 115 grand of the taxpayers money that he'll be getting every year for the rest of his life for "office costs and secretarial costs arising from his special position in public life” as well as severance and a special pension. Pocket change to him of course, but you know he's going to claim every single penny of it just for the joy of fucking over regular people, and then probably invest it in arms manufacturing or oil and coal companies or private prisons or something else evil like that, as a treat.

Same goes for any technology, from power loom to AI.

Convincing the working class it's the tools that are the problem, and not the system that abuses them (both working class, and tools), is one of capitalism's greatest achievements.

Guy literally purged every halfway leftist in the fucking party, and has spent his entire time as leader, and is aiming his entire election campaign on, pleasing capitalists and maintain the status quo. The man doesn't have a left leaning bone in his spineless self serving body.

Taken from a Press Release by the group:

LONDON, 1 July 2024—Two young trans activists scaled the NHS England’s London headquarters at 133–135 Waterloo Road in London on Friday to stage a protest and have remained there ever since. The group, now made up of seven young protesters, all 18 or under, has one simple message: Trans Kids Deserve Better: we are not pawns for your politics.

The powerful direct action has been organised by the “Trans Kids Deserve Better” network, which is calling for: access to gender affirming healthcare for trans children and young people, protection from discrimination and disrespect in their daily lives and the right to be heard in all decisions that affect them.

Their protest comes in the wake of the government using emergency powers to ban all access to puberty blockers in the UK, a move that was supported by Labour’s Wes Streeting, likely to be the next Secretary of State for Health. It also comes in the context of a General Election campaign where trans people and trans youth have been used as ‘culture war’ talking points, but not allowed to speak for themselves.

“We are staging this protest to remind politicians and voters that we’re real kids, not just political talking points. We may not have a vote, but it is our lives that are at stake,” said one of the activists staging the protest. “Gender-affirming healthcare is a matter of life and death for us, and we hope that our actions will bring awareness to this fact and encourage others to fight for the healthcare and dignity that we are so shamefully denied.”

I couldn't find a wiki, but from this site I did find for an exhibition the artist had:

Museum of the History of Kiev presents an exhibition of Vasily Korchovoy "Other beauty". The creativity of the Kiev sculptor is the embodiment of what is still called “atypical” beauty in society. These are magnificent bacchanals and madonnas, with love recreated by the master in marble or limestone plastic forms. In the exposition, the author, combining the already known creative works and the novelties specially prepared for this exhibition, reveals the eternal life essence of what he professes and calls “Other Beauty”.

Vasily Korchevoy was born in 1962 in the Khmelnitsky region. Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture, sculpture faculty. Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. Honored Artist of Ukraine.

Another one of his sculptures I really like:
