I had the same issue and I think it happened because of a cheap USB cable. It sometimes even disconnected when I touched the cable. So I switched back to printing from sd card.

What are some things that can be done with blank dvds, nowadays? in c/asklemmy@lemmy.ml

Most of my backup DVDs I created 10 years ago are no longer readable. So I wouldn't recomment that for long term storage.

Die IT Welt ist groß, soll es eher Richtung Softwareentwicklung, Systemadministration, Consulting,... gehen?

Ich bin zwar kein Quereinsteiger, hab mir damals aber nen Raspberry geholt inklusive so nem kleinen Bausatz mit Elektroteilen (LEDs, Widerstände, Transistoren, LCD Display, etc) und dann einfach drauf los gebastelt. Bringt einem zumindest Grundkenntnisse in Linux um das Ding aufzusetzen, bisschen Elektrotechnik, Programmieren mit Python und ist alles in allem nocb bezahlbar.
