I went last year and couldn't get any picture that did the view justice. This pic is awesome though but I can guarantee it's better in person still.

Whenever I see these types of pictures of major cities it always makes me wonder about the sheer governance necessary to make it all function. Can’t even fathom what it takes to run a city of 20+ million.

Especially in Tokyo it is quite impressive (subjectively, from European perspective):

  • Swimming pools and onsen on the top floors of large buildings
  • construction sites that seem to be worked on 24/7, it never seems to be empty
  • trains and public transport that arrives ON POINT
  • most people get along with each other very well
  • there is a larger “basic politeness”
  • it is safe

I visited in about 2016 I think. We flew in at night, then caught the train to our hotel. The room was on something like the 40th or 50th floor, and the night time view was mind-blowing.
