I want to know what cameras have never been used for porn?

[-] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 5 months ago

They haven’t been invented yet, but it’s only a matter of time.

I'm imagining a cheap porno being filmed in a shitty hotel with the cameraman wearing the Steadicam rig used in The Shining.

I can't imagine someone filming slow motion 4K porn with a Phantom Flex

top end digital and film cameras for cinema. among the best equipment money can buy

[-] remotelove@lemmy.ca 28 points 5 months ago

The porn film industry is known for using the best and newest tech. Hell, If I owned a startup that was launching a new video format or camera, I would immediately send free or cheap equipment to major porn producers. Porn can make or break new tech.

I think that is true, actually. The porn industry adopts new tech early and eagerly, that is very true. But they simply don't have the budget for the best tech.

True. I forget times have changed and we are now in the OnlyFans era where everything is recorded on phones. I was thinking about the VHS/Beta wars when VHS was simply cheaper and easier to distribute in higher volumes.

Hell, there are probably only a few major porn producers these days and those are probably ran under a franchise model, of sorts. I am just speculating at this point though...

(Porn made it to VR super-quick though.)

Even used, you're looking at 15k just for a camera like the one pictured here. No lenses or other addons. Arri is expensive.

They make cinema and film cameras, so very big $$

The benefit of use high-end cameras (like those from Arri) is that they usually have a higher range for ISO (light sensitivity) and aperture, which makes it easier to shoot without setting up lighting for every specific shot. Most people know this from smartphone cameras: Cheap ones struggle in low-light settings while better ones will still be able to produce decent pictures.

This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.
