Do the cleaning staff typically know the patirnts’ conditions and other medical details? I suppose they can read the charts on the walls. Is that a hipaa violation? Or maybe they also have some hipaa training / certification.

This would make a good shitmovie premise, like Good Will Hunting meets House, where the best doctor in the hospital is actually a janitor. Maybe he reads patient charts and secretly treats them for the real disease the other doctors haven’t found.

The patients get admitted to wards based on specialty. Oncology is a specialty. Dying cancer patient is admitted to oncology ward. Simple as.

Housekeeping definitely meets patients, and sometimes knows what's going on with them based on seeing them and overhearing conversations. This is especially the case if someone is there an extended time. They are subject to and trained in HIPAA as hospital staff

Charts aren't publicity visible, and never have been as long as I've been alive. That's mostly an invention of television, these days they're entirely electronic.

Yes, it's a HIPAA violation, but it's possible this is outside the US.

That of course assumes that a greentext is even remotely true, but it's obviously both fake and gay. (Not that there's anything wrong with that)

Hadn't thought of that! I haven't seen a paper chart and clipboard on a door since forever. Pretty sure that was the thing when I popped a lung in the mid-90s, but certainly not 10-years ago during my last stay.

Most hospitals have areas for different specialties. i.e. the oncologist ward. So even though you dont have details everyone knows the patients there have cancer.

[–] zoltanshields@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 week ago

I don't think they read the charts or anything, but in my experience having a few family members with long hospital stays, usually housekeeping gets an idea of who someone is and their general condition pretty quickly.

Man if I went to the hospital to get cancer treatment in my city, even the damn birds would know I have cancer, the next day.

Full grain toast. They’re offering suggestions to the dude for his diet.

Wheat's a staple food because it's loaded with energy. A cloud of flour will ignite and a silo full can explode. Think on that. :)

If you eat enough of it

When I was 16 I had a temp job doing the bins at a hospital. One floor was cancer patients. There was one woman who always said hello to me with a big smile. It stuck with me because I couldn't understand why somebody in that situation was being so nice to somebody she only saw for 5 mins a day.

Next floor down was for old people. That was a lot more scary than the cancer ward. People dying unexpectedly, aggressive old men, shit all over the toilet floors. I'm glad I did only the bins.

Old age is terrifying

260 is preeetty bad. Tho im also 5'11 and am 98kg(216) and i am healthy(bmi is bullshit, fat percentage and distribution also matters) but 260 is reaching the limit where you cant even achieve that healthily.

[–] RBWells@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

BMI is bullshit but mostly in the other direction - people who are overfat without being overweight by BMI. It's much less common to be overweight without being overfat.

What is also true, though, is that the risk curve for underweight is sharp but for overweight is pretty flat - a few pounds over just doesn't add much risk, while a few pounds under does add some risk.

[–] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm overweight and I would love to lose weight, but I have chronic illnesses with treatment that cause weight gain and difficulty losing weight. I have to be careful with exercise as well because I can overdo it and send myself into a pain flare up. My doctors told me that my weight isn't a huge issue, thankfully, and that it seems like I have a good bit of muscle under the fat from the exercise that I do do (I care for and ride horses like 3 days a week, sometimes more if I'm feeling up for it)

I hate how I look, but knowing that I'm strong helps me feel a bit better about it. I say that I'm chubby-strong. It's always fun to see people surprised that I can haul around 50lb bags of feed like they're nothing. I'm also short, so the bags are like half my height lmao.

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip -2 points 1 week ago

Weight isnt nearly as bad as people believe it is. As long as you arent obese being overweight but moving and eating healthy is probably healthier than being overly obsessed with exercise. Of course the two still correlate because often people who are overweight also live unhealthy lifestyles. Also chubby people are hot, dont let society dictate whos beautiful

I have a better one for the op: don't die a miserable cnt.
