Not to mention the "flight" capable model is purchasable by invitation only.

Just like the previous Roadster, this will never see the light of day.

[–] Jiral@lemmy.world 40 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

The previous Roadster was at least a good looking car that never existed on the market, unlike the new abomination that may also never exist on the market.

[–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The first generation Roadster wasn’t designed by Tesla, it was a Lotus Elise with the combustion drivetrain removed.

[–] justOnePersistentKbinPlease@fedia.io 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No, there was the 2nd generation roadster that I suspect the only model of it Musk missed an entire planet with and is now in orbit around the sun.

[–] Xey@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

That's where all the money from the reservations went, at least it made it to space and didn't just explode or crash XD

Elon claimed he never meet Ghislaine Maxwell or Jeffrey Epstein, then this photo came out proving he had at least meet Ghislaine and his ex-wife confirmed they'd stayed at Epsteins mansion in New York so he obviously knew him.

And we know Elon's brother and investor Kimbal Musk not only knew Epstein but dated some girls he set him up with and they talked about Kimbal introducing him to Elon.

Then this email allegedly between Jeffrey Epstein and Elon Musk discussing an apparent kung fu practice with Ghislaine Maxwell was introduced as evidence at a trial. Elon claims its fake but he's been caught lying so often it's hard to trust his word anymore.

Lemmy generally doesn't like Seinfeld, on account of the whole dating-a-schoolgirl thing and the being-kind-of-a-dick thing

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

At least she was legal vs. Epstein Island that Musk wanted onto so badly.

Eh, I'm happy it got as many as it did. I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't want to because they're (very justifiably) against Jerry Seinfeld. I just think the bit itself is funny.

[–] soupcon@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 week ago

I mean, nobody ever accused Larry David of not writing funny material

[–] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world 35 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I popped onto Reddit to see what the Tesla sub thought of this. The amount of fools who actually seem to think this flying car will ever be made is comical.

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 16 points 1 week ago

Not juat that. It's the same as with the cyberfuck. They daydream about kickflipping over cars in traffic and imagine how everyone point at them thinking they are cool as fuck. Disgusting.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Now imagine the same idiots with actual flying cars.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 8 points 1 week ago

like the OG cybertruck he unveiled in 2017, but never actually went through with it, until 2023, and hyperloop before that.

I am so dubious about the roadster demonstration. Was the car being operated by a human? If not, I wouldn't be surprised if the car was magnetized to the ramp and made super lightweight for the "booster jets" to work.

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 19 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I mean it is possible, as was shown in a demonstration McMurtry did. In fact, I would think it’s more difficult to use magnets to do that. I’d believe this is just a giant fan car.

There’s no way that it gets more than like 3 minutes of runtime from a full charge with that downforce mode on, especially the flight model with all the extra weight of the thrusters and compressed gas tanks.

The was nobody in the car. Of course it was a lot of bs

[–] LordMayor@piefed.social 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I can’t find the article but…

They never claimed there was a person. Musk even explicitly said it was remote controlled because they didn’t want to kill anyone.

The ramp was supposedly suction. That seems feasible for a carbon fiber body.

It’s all just a show, anyway. Probably an ego project ordered by Musk. He desperately wants to be seen as genius but has the most juvenile ideas about what that entails. Also, the demonstration to distract from the movie about Musk and his political machinations.

What was even the idea behind the concept? Who ever wished for a car that could emit puffs of gas to vaguely jump around for half a second? Did I miss the petition or what?

[–] Nindelofocho@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Even though i have no evidence Im pretty certain there was no human in it also what was used in the show was likely a machine specifically designed for the purpose of the show nothing close to a practical car outside of looks.

[–] exaybachae@startrek.website 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They annouced that the cars were not occupied, for safety.

Let's say they actually did release this and it worked safely. What's the use case for being able to jump 100 feet? I can't think of anything other than to skip in front of the car in front of you in heavy traffic, or in other words, to be a colossal jackass to other road users.

[–] bonesawmcl@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago (5 children)

None of the rocket versions (and probably also the "suction" version neither) will be road legal. The cold gas thrusters they use are incredibly loud (and unsafe for anyone standing around) and the fan system spits out any debris on the road towards the cars behind it.

[–] group_hug@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

FDA has decided it is okay to poison food and EPA has decided it's okay to poison the water..What makes you think automotive safety laws.will.be upheld?

The car is ridiculously expensive. So it's not like a poor will.be driving it causing problems for.the rich.

Pretty sure society has decided rich people.can.cause problems at the expense of others and commit crimes as much as they want.

[–] IphtashuFitz@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Not to mention where the hell does the car land, and how does it guarantee it won’t land on another car, a pedestrian, etc.

[–] hexdream@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Sudden high pressure gas release tends to deflesh anyone next to it. Yes it is as bad as it sounds.

If he ever COULD deliver, it would make the most hilarious "migrant caravan" if a bunch of Mexicans were flipping their cars over the Border wall.

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

And you can do it once and then you need to refill for 7 hours. I’d just a stunt

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I was looking forward to the reports of Musk influencers getting themselves killed.

[–] PieMePlenty@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

If it ever gets produced, it will never be road legal. Its a meme to drive stock up, this is the use case.

Of course, I am thinking of a future where Trump & co. isn't president who can allow something like this on the streets.

Tesla don't give a shit, there's no money in these kinds of cars, this is just to goose the stock price.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

TSLA caught a nice bump during the presentation and then fell to below what it opened for that same day. :)

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

They only need to dupe very few to rake in lots more cash for elon. Can you imagine the huge amounts of energy required to flip, flop and fly that car? You'd probably get about minutes per charge or per tank.

[–] thedeadwalking4242@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Probably not even that. I have a miny whoop, it's battery is 1/3 it's volume I'm sure much more it's weight. It only flys for 3 minutes. I can't image a Tesla would stay in the air for over a minute.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

TSLA got a bump in price during the presentation but it closed the day even lower than it opened. :)

[–] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

The presentation was in the evening, even after regular after-hours trading. (Livestream was scheduled at 8:55 p.m. Eastern Time.)

But you're not too far off, the first prices recorded in pre-market trading the next morning reflected a bump, and then that day closed lower than the previous day.

Shouldn’t he focus on fixing his junk trucks that blow up and lock everyone inside in a fiery tomb?

Rather than introduce some other super unsafe shit that’s not going to work correctly. It will be comical if they actual get this thing on the road, to see the videos of people trying to pass other cars with this flying bullshit and launch themselves directly into a freeway wall.

[–] DEJED@feddit.org 11 points 1 week ago

Announcing the rugpull beforehand is very ethical of them

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 week ago

We are going to build something. We dont exactly know what it will be, what specs will be, or what it will look like or if it will be built at all

Give us more money.

[–] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 week ago

It's not even a roadster

[–] X@piefed.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

lol that’s not going to stop them

[–] exaybachae@startrek.website 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hey, off topic, but that's the first animated icon I've seen in ages. Very cool. 😁

Well yeah, it's a scam. That car isn't going into production, they couldn't even make the Cybertruck not suck fuckloads of dick.
